Ning Xuan awakens in an unfamiliar dynasty with memories of the modern world and no idea how he came to inhabit the body of a beautiful young man. Sold into Prince Rong’s residence as a lowly servant, he wants nothing more than to keep his head down, fill his stomach, and somehow find a way home.

Instead, he attracts the attention of Yihua, a handsome and shameless “guard” who delights in teasing him at every opportunity. Ning Xuan does not realize that Yihua is actually Feng Xuanyi—the calculating Fifth Prince and master of the residence. What begins with stolen kisses and playful deception gradually pulls Ning Xuan into a dangerous struggle among imperial princes, where affection is inseparable from ambition and every promise may conceal another scheme.

Armed with knowledge beyond his time and an unexpected talent for strategy, Ning Xuan rises from servant to military commander, helping shape the contest for the throne. Yet the closer Feng Xuanyi comes to supreme power, the more Ning Xuan is forced to question whether the man beside him truly loves him—or merely values him as the most useful piece on his board.

When victory leaves him imprisoned within the imperial harem, surrounded by rivals, old friends turned strangers, and secrets concerning his own identity, Ning Xuan must fight not only for freedom but for the right to decide whom he loves and what kind of life he is willing to accept.

Beneath a canopy of hibiscus blossoms unfolds a turbulent story of love and power, memory and identity, betrayal and forgiveness—and two men struggling to discover whether a relationship born from deception can ever become something true.
