Feng Xuanyi spoke as though he were being extraordinarily generous, as if he had bestowed some tremendous favor. But Ning Xuan was completely unimpressed. What Feng Xuanyi saw as assigning him an exclusive duty symbolizing royal favor, Ning Xuan only saw as the final destruction of his last peaceful sanctuary—his ability to get a solid night’s sleep. He immediately jumped up in protest.
“You can’t exploit people like this…”
Before he could finish speaking, the world spun around him again. A shadow loomed overhead as Feng Xuanyi pressed closer.
The all-too-familiar position made Ning Xuan freeze instantly. Every hair on his body practically stood at attention in alarm as his dark eyes watched the rapidly approaching handsome face with full vigilance.
Only when their breaths mingled and even their lips could feel each other’s warmth did Feng Xuanyi finally stop. The half-smile at his lips looked especially frivolous—and especially punchable.
“I think you may have misunderstood something. I’m not discussing this with you, nor am I asking for your opinion. Whether you agree or disagree doesn’t matter. This is simply an order, a command, an established fact. You don’t need to know why. You only need to obey.”
Ning Xuan’s lips trembled violently as he shook with anger.
Damn it, feudal society really doesn’t treat servants like human beings. Absolutely zero human rights! This hypocritical exploiting ruling class!
Blinking once, Feng Xuanyi smiled innocently again. His low, magnetic voice drifted through the night, sounding unusually seductive and intimate.
“However, since it’s you, I don’t mind giving you the right to refuse.”
Seeing the instant spark of hope explode in Ning Xuan’s eyes, Feng Xuanyi could not help laughing softly. Ning Xuan’s miserable expression transformed immediately into eager anticipation, even the dull lifelessness in his eyes replaced with excitement—completely unaware that his future was looking increasingly grim.
Feng Xuanyi leisurely stated his conditions.
“You may choose one of two options: either serve me morning and night, or continue what happened at noon. Pick one.”
As he spoke, one hand braced itself beside Ning Xuan’s ear while the other slowly rubbed at the cloth fastenings near Ning Xuan’s collar with unmistakable implication.
Ning Xuan instantly stiffened again. The tiny bit of color that had returned to his face vanished beneath storm clouds. Both hands immediately clutched protectively at his collar while he stared at Feng Xuanyi with complete alertness, clearly afraid the man might suddenly lose control and pounce on him again.
The corners of his mouth twitched violently.
“Can’t you think about anything else?! Aren’t you afraid you’ll literally exhaust yourself to death?!”
“Exhaust myself to death?” Feng Xuanyi repeated with an unconcerned smile, savoring the phrase before giving Ning Xuan a meaningful look. “I’m actually quite confident in my stamina. Whether I’ll exhaust myself or not—how would you know if you never try?”
As if that still wasn’t enough, he deliberately leaned close and breathed lightly against Ning Xuan’s ear. Ning Xuan shuddered immediately from the unexpected touch, his face turning bright red at once, pale skin flushed pink and startlingly enticing.
Damn it. A man like this—someone who thinks entirely with his lower body, who would absolutely be a top-tier rich handsome playboy even in modern times, while in this era his status and position are even more absurdly overpowered—he’s basically an ancient version of a diamond bachelor! No, not just a diamond bachelor—a pure gold oversized-carat one! He’s the natural enemy of human chastity!
Seeing Ning Xuan’s obvious resistance and rejection, Feng Xuanyi showed no irritation at all. Instead, he continued speaking leisurely, as though he were incredibly reasonable.
“You may choose now.”
Ning Xuan looked miserable. Losing proper sleep would undoubtedly destroy both his quality of life and his physical health. But directly refusing meant guaranteed danger to his chastity. Although talking about chastity as a man felt ridiculous… if the one throwing herself at him were a woman—a princess or something—he would absolutely welcome it with open arms. But this… this was a hard-bodied man. And judging from prior experience, the one getting devoured would almost certainly be himself…
“Is there… a third option?”
Feng Xuanyi raised an eyebrow as though he had just heard an alien language. Without wasting another second, he immediately lowered his head toward Ning Xuan.
This truly frightened Ning Xuan. After several encounters, he had deeply realized the gap in strength between them. The possibility of successfully resisting Feng Xuanyi was about as likely as an ant successfully tripping an elephant…
Ning Xuan immediately struggled with all four limbs in complete desperation. His voice rose uncontrollably loud, and he no longer cared how quiet the middle of the night was, nor whether anyone else might hear. He only knew to shout repeatedly, terrified that Feng Xuanyi might not hear clearly enough, might miss it, or might deliberately pretend not to hear:
“I choose the first one! The first one, the first one, the first one!”
Feng Xuanyi’s movements stopped abruptly just as their noses brushed together.
Ning Xuan’s chest still heaved violently from lingering shock, yet he did not dare make another sound. The two simply stared at each other from an absurdly close distance.
“Good boy~”
After what felt like an eternity of silence, Ning Xuan’s heart pounded wildly while trying unsuccessfully to guess Feng Xuanyi’s thoughts. Yet the man whose expression had remained unreadable suddenly smiled brightly, like a child who had just received candy—simple and dazzling. One hand landed on Ning Xuan’s still slightly damp head and began ruthlessly ruffling it until the hair that had only barely been tidy moments ago resembled a bird’s nest before he finally, reluctantly, let go.
“But as repayment—”
Feng Xuanyi leaned closer with a smile, the rest of his words disappearing directly into Ning Xuan’s mouth.
A shadow descended rapidly. His handsome features enlarged before Ning Xuan’s eyes. Something warm and wet swept quickly across his lips several times. Ning Xuan only had time to stiffen before the light kiss ended almost immediately.
Feng Xuanyi straightened back up, smacking his lips in lingering satisfaction. He knew that if he deepened the kiss any further, the little creature in front of him would explode again, so he contentedly savored the brief contact while reminding himself not to rush things.
Ning Xuan, meanwhile, although he theoretically accepted the concept, still could not adapt to it in practice. With a loud thud, he rolled stiffly right off the soft couch.
Half petrified and looking ready to cry, Ning Xuan stared unwillingly at Feng Xuanyi sitting calmly above him, completely at ease and perfectly in his element. Even the strength to protest or explode had vanished completely. Embracing the determination of someone prepared to die gloriously, Ning Xuan bravely asked:
“Did I offend Your Highness somehow before this?”
Feng Xuanyi blinked in confusion. After thinking for a moment, a faint smile curved at his lips.
“No.”
Ning Xuan shuddered. He could clearly feel things were nowhere near as light and casual as Feng Xuanyi made them sound, but he lacked both the energy and the ability to figure it out anymore. Earlier he had confidently spoken about “instinct”—to hell with all that now. With the chaotic mess his brain had become, if ten bricks fell from the sky, eleven of them would probably hit him…
“Then why does Your Highness treat me with such… favor…”
Unable to find a suitable word, Ning Xuan’s face twitched violently. He could hardly ask directly like some shy maiden, one hand on his hip and cheeks flushed red, glaring angrily while demanding:
“Tell me—why are you always acting so frivolously and teasing me like this?!”
Feng Xuanyi shrugged and smiled cheerfully, looking completely matter-of-fact.
“Because I like you.”
The words struck like a bolt from a clear sky, leaving Ning Xuan charred inside and out.
