The golden-red light poured down, dazzling in a sea of blinding brightness. Ning Xuan wanted to avoid it, but his body felt unbearably weary, unwilling to move even a fraction. With difficulty, he opened his dry eyes. Brilliant sunlight filtered through layers of golden gauze curtains, filling the room with shimmering radiance. Ning Xuan blinked repeatedly, staring for a long while before realizing he had no idea where he was.
The weather was bright and pleasant. Having not enjoyed a proper night’s sleep in a very long time—let alone sleeping in—Ning Xuan felt somewhat flattered by fate. Not only had he slept until nearly noon, but no one had disturbed his dreams early in the morning. Most importantly, even Steward Mo had not come to drag him out of bed and lecture him. It was astonishing.
Thinking that no one had come to rudely yank him from under the covers, Ning Xuan felt it would be pure self-torture to go looking for punishment himself. If being late for a little while earned punishment and being late for half a day earned punishment too, then if the result was the same, why not rest and recover first?
Convinced this logic was flawless, Ning Xuan tugged the blanket closer, intending to enjoy a second round of sleep. Even though he had seemingly done nothing, his entire body felt exhausted beyond belief. Yet the moment he tried to put his plan into action and merely move a finger, not only did he notice the strangely smooth and silky fabric beneath him, but even that tiny movement caused soreness to spread all the way to his fingertips. Only then did he realize that he was far beyond simple fatigue. The feeling coursing through his body was something even being run over by ten heavy trucks could not adequately describe.
Then, without warning, fragmented scenes flooded into his mind. One image after another. One memory after another. Ning Xuan froze, caught completely off guard. The lingering sounds of tangled breathing and intimate whispers seemed to echo beside his ears. A bead of sweat formed at his temple, whether from shock or pain he could not tell. His stunningly handsome face instantly turned deathly pale.
Slowly lifting his gaze, he stared at the golden Moon-Hidden Cold Gauze curtains hanging everywhere—curtains that would never have appeared in his own room. The exquisite Su embroidery brocade woven with gold and silver threads was something he had become all too familiar with these past few days. Such precious bedding was now covering the body of a mere “servant.” Ning Xuan felt every bone in his body stiffen. Even though the truth was already painfully obvious, he stubbornly searched for some contradiction that might prove otherwise. He tried to move his legs together, only to discover he lacked the strength. The slightest exertion sent pain shooting through his back and waist as though they had been snapped in two, while a swollen, throbbing ache radiated from a far more private place. He had no desire to examine that particular tragedy in greater detail. His face alternated between pale and flushed as every color imaginable passed across it.
Recalling the events of the previous night, Ning Xuan admitted that he had willingly agreed to it. But that did not mean Feng Xuanyi had the right to do whatever he pleased. He had clearly said no more, yet Feng Xuanyi had continued tormenting him until well past midnight, refusing to stop until Ning Xuan had finally fainted from exhaustion. Heaven knew what that man had been fed growing up. Was he truly blessed with limitless stamina, or had lust completely overtaken his brain?
As Ning Xuan silently calculated his grievances, his expression shifted constantly between anger and smug satisfaction, making him look so unpredictable that anyone seeing him would instinctively keep their distance.
“What are you thinking about so seriously?”
At some point, Feng Xuanyi had strolled openly into the inner bedroom. With one hand, he swept aside the bed curtains. Leaning down, he caressed Ning Xuan’s pale, delicate cheek and immediately claimed a long kiss.
Hearing the voice, Ning Xuan looked up and saw only a dark shadow descending. Before he could even make out the man’s face, warmth pressed against his lips. He was just about to curse when a nimble, damp tongue slipped inside and began wreaking havoc.
The anger that had briefly settled instantly shot sky-high again.
Damn it! Is he even human?! After fooling around for half the night, setting aside the fact that he got up early this morning, how can he still be in the mood so quickly?!
Ning Xuan immediately pushed and struggled with both hands and feet. Unfortunately, every movement tugged at the muscles in his lower back and backside, sending sharp pulses of pain through him. He could only grit his teeth and groan miserably.
His resistance proved useless. Instead, it caused the blanket to slip down slightly, exposing pale skin covered in mottled purple and blue marks. The sight carried an unmistakably erotic quality. Feng Xuanyi’s gaze drifted over it by accident. What had begun as a gentle, affectionate kiss instantly turned fierce, and even his breathing grew heavier.
Ning Xuan inwardly cried out that things were bad. This notorious beast who thought with his lower half could apparently become aroused in broad daylight. If he failed to escape now, he would undoubtedly meet the same tragic fate again. Gritting his teeth and squeezing his eyes shut, he suddenly bit down hard on Feng Xuanyi’s lips.
Feng Xuanyi had not expected such a move. Caught completely off guard, he was bitten squarely and had no choice but to pull back.
Ignoring the pain throughout his body, Ning Xuan seized the opportunity to yank the blanket up. He rolled toward the inside of the bed and wrapped himself so thoroughly that he resembled a rice dumpling, leaving only a pair of bright black eyes exposed as he watched Feng Xuanyi warily, ready in case the man’s beastly instincts flared up again.
Touching his stinging lips, Feng Xuanyi found his fingertips stained with blood. One brow rose.
Among all the people in the world, anyone who dared offend and challenge him so brazenly, then threaten him without the slightest fear afterward, was probably unique.
“Tsk, tsk. You’re quite bold. You even dare bite me?”
Bundled up inside the blanket, Ning Xuan merely snorted in response. Inwardly, however, he was weighing the pros and cons.
As a grown man, compared to being worked to death in bed just to satisfy your beastly desires, I’d rather be dragged out and beaten to death with clubs. At least that would be quicker.
Feng Xuanyi could not help laughing. At the same time, he was secretly surprised. It had only been an ordinary kiss. He had not intended anything more. Yet whenever he faced Ning Xuan, he somehow lost control. That was completely unlike his usual self.
“It’s already noon. Lunch has been prepared. Are you eating or not?” Feng Xuanyi asked softly.
The gentleness in his voice flowed like water, completely devoid of the aloof nobility he normally carried.
Ning Xuan blinked. Only now did he realize it was already noon. He had not noticed before, but the moment it was mentioned, his stomach began growling loudly. The sound was so obvious that even the blanket could not muffle it. In the otherwise quiet bedroom, the noise felt especially embarrassing.
His exposed face instantly flushed red. Even the corners of his eyes reddened with embarrassment.
Unfortunately, Feng Xuanyi chose that exact moment to burst out laughing.
“The people regard food as their heaven. What’s so funny about being hungry?” Ning Xuan grumbled from beneath the blanket, desperately trying to salvage his dignity. “If you hadn’t been born into the imperial family with food and clothing handed to you, then if you were thrown out into the real world, forget chasing women and enjoying yourself. You probably wouldn’t even be able to earn enough to feed yourself.”
Feng Xuanyi was not offended in the slightest. He simply listened.
Straightening up, he carefully examined the blanket-wrapped cylinder lying on the bed from top to bottom and chuckled.
“So, do you want to stay wrapped up like that while I carry you there, or will you obediently get dressed and walk there yourself? Or—”
As though suddenly remembering something, his expression changed. A mischievous smile appeared on his face.
“If your body is really too uncomfortable to move, I can have everything brought in here instead.”
He paused meaningfully.
“I can feed you myself.”
