Synopsis

Zhang Xingchuan is thirty-five, the co-founder and executive president of a successful listed internet company. Returning to his alma mater for a university event, he meets twenty-three-year-old Tan Xiao, a brilliant finance PhD student whose relaxed manner and sharp mind leave an impression. Their paths cross again when Tan Xiao begins an internship at Zhang Xingchuan’s company, placing the seemingly carefree doctoral student directly in the orbit of a CEO who is far less cold and intimidating than his title suggests.

What begins as professional curiosity gradually slips into something warmer. Between office encounters, campus life, messages sent between packed schedules, and an unexpected connection over the Spring Festival, Zhang Xingchuan finds himself increasingly fascinated by the younger man. Tan Xiao, meanwhile, approaches romance with the same mixture of intelligence, curiosity, and cheerful irreverence that he brings to almost everything else.

There is only one small problem: Zhang Xingchuan thinks he understands the difference between their worlds. He is the successful CEO with the impressive salary, while Tan Xiao appears to be an exceptionally gifted but otherwise ordinary student still working toward his doctorate. Then he discovers that the “ordinary student” may have a rather different relationship with money than anyone expected, and that Tan Xiao’s casual finances are capable of making even a highly paid executive reconsider who, exactly, is the rich one in this relationship.

Wishing You Prosperity is a warm urban romance about falling in love after the bread has already been earned: two capable adults with careers, ambitions, families, and very different assumptions about wealth finding something they cannot quantify on a balance sheet. Light, affectionate, and frequently funny, it turns the familiar CEO romance on its head by asking what happens when the supposed rich man realizes his boyfriend may be playing in an entirely different financial league.

He thought he was the rich one. Then he met Tan Xiao.
