Synopsis

Su Haiqing is quiet, awkward with words, and far more intense inside than he ever lets anyone see. While preparing to try for art school again, he spends his days caring for his grandfather and learning to swim. At the pool, a chance encounter with Yan Fei, a sharp, handsome marketing director carrying frustrations of his own, turns unexpectedly intimate. The moment is brief, impulsive, and impossible for either of them to forget.

But Yan Fei is not unattached. He has been with Jimmy for years, in a relationship built from familiarity, attraction, quarrels, tenderness, and all the complicated habits of two people who have shared a life for a long time. Haiqing, meanwhile, loses the only way he has to contact Yan Fei almost as soon as they meet. What should have become nothing more than a strange memory begins to settle somewhere much deeper.

Then Haiqing meets Chen Pinjun, warm, attentive, and refreshingly direct. Pinjun offers him the kind of affection that is easy to understand, and their growing closeness gives Haiqing something steady to hold on to. Yet when circumstances bring Haiqing and Yan Fei together again, the four men find themselves caught in a knot of old attachments, new desire, jealousy, responsibility, and choices that refuse to stay simple.

Dark Blue and Moonlight follows love at its most contradictory: the person who makes the heart race is not always the person who makes life safe, and wanting someone does not erase the people already standing beside you. Against swimming pools, city nights, family obligations, art, and moonlit rooms washed in deep blue, the novel asks what love becomes when desire collides with responsibility, and whether a heart really has room for more than one person at a time.
