BA – Volume 3: Chapter 65: Seeking People from the Past

At noon on the weekend, the entrance to Youersi English Preparatory School was crowded with parents dropping off and picking up children from tutoring classes. The morning group streamed outward while the afternoon students flowed inside carrying buns, cold noodles, hamburgers, and other simple meals. For a brief period, traffic congestion formed an enormous whirlpool of humanity at the school gate. Parents desperate for their children to become successful and children exhausted from running endlessly between classes were all swept into the same enormous pit that wasted both money and labor.

Vehicles of every kind sprawled chaotically around the entrance. Four-wheeled cars arrogantly blocked the gate as though claiming higher status, while dark masses of electric bikes and pedal bicycles piled behind them. In truth, everyone was merely struggling inside the same pit, with very little meaningful difference between high and low.

Beside the English school lay a patch of wasteland. The city forestry department was preparing to landscape it, covering the long, narrow strip with orderly square paving stones, arborvitae, and ginkgo trees. The land had been abandoned for years, resembling a scar embedded along the neglected boundary between the old and new districts. Garbage and dog feces had accumulated into small mountains.

Mao Zhixiu had already put on a smog mask. Her brows and nose twisted beyond recognition at the filthy scene before them. “Mr. Ling, there’s no possible way it’s here! Are you seriously planning to dig through garbage?”

You can dig through garbage and excavate graves all you want, but you’re not going to unearth evidence from fifteen years ago. And I absolutely refuse to help you dig, Immortal Mao complained internally.

Ling He had not even put on a mask. His brows were tightly drawn in confusion and anxiety, his fingers holding the heavy list of information they had obtained. His mind was working so intensely that the soul-destroying odors around him seemed entirely excluded from his awareness.

Yan Xiaodao limped over and looked ahead. “According to the records, this should be the location of the former Ci’en Hall welfare home.”

Ling He said gloomily, “But the welfare home was demolished long ago. Even the original building is gone. This place has been abandoned for years.”

Now that construction and landscaping were beginning again, every old trace had genuinely disappeared.

The welfare home itself no longer existed. Even if a group of children had once lived there, finding their names and where they eventually went would be extraordinarily difficult, perhaps impossible. The official information retained by the civil-affairs authorities was fragmented and pitifully sparse. Nearby businesses changed owners constantly, and the neighborhood faces were cold and unfamiliar. They could uncover almost nothing.

A section chief at the municipal Civil Affairs office told them, “That Ci’en Hall? It was shut down and dealt with ten years ago. You’re still looking for it?”

Yan Xiaodao asked, “Why was it shut down?”

The section chief followed the standard civil-servant policy of “the public may ask, but I can’t be bothered answering.” Without raising his eyes from the files on his desk, he let his eyelids and face droop. “If it was shut down, naturally there was a reason. They violated regulations.”

Ling He asked, “What regulations? What did they do?”

The section chief genuinely lost patience. “How they violated regulations was a matter our government handled. You don’t need to ask!”

Ling He’s brows drew together. Anger appeared along the sharp line of his eyes as he planted both arms on the desk, clearly one second away from spraying venom directly into the little official’s face.

Yan Xiaodao reacted quickly and quietly grabbed the back of Ling He’s waistband, hauling him away. Don’t lose your temper. This isn’t a place where you can handle things that brutally.

When dealing with bureaucrats and snobs inside government offices, Mr. Ling, the foreign monk, lacked experience. Did he imagine the same approach he used on crooked aunties in Rongzheng Street alleys would work here? Or the methods he had used against that old human scum Watanabe aboard the cruise ship? This sort of interaction happened to be Mr. Yan’s specialty. He had seen every possible face in society and knew how to greet them all.

Yan Xiaodao reached into his pocket for cigarettes. His fingers moved extremely quickly, slipping something into the inside of the pack before politely offering the entire box across with an easy smile. “Have a cigarette. We can talk slowly.”

Without saying anything, the section chief glanced sideways. There was only one cigarette inside the box, wrapped around a roll of cash.

The chief put the cigarette between his lips and smoothly pocketed the box. The exchange on both sides flowed without the slightest seam. Clouds immediately parted inside the office and peace descended across the four seas. Government and citizen began speaking harmoniously in an atmosphere of friendly cooperation, while Mr. Yan smiled and lit the man’s cigarette.

Ci’en Hall had been an officially registered welfare institution. Every year it received government funding and occasionally donations of goods and money from private companies. Yet more than ten years ago, the institution had been investigated and shut down for a shocking reason: human trafficking.

Yan Xiaodao had initially assumed they had merely abused children. He had never imagined that the director and leadership of the welfare home, blinded by money and stripped of conscience, had actually traded pitiful orphans for profit.

Naturally, such corrupt behavior had been concealed beneath transactions that were outwardly legal and was not carried out in the most openly monstrous manner. There were, after all, many people desperate to have children but unable to conceive. Official adoption channels imposed strict conditions and cost substantial time and money. A private black-market shortcut, by contrast, depended only on the welfare director nodding her head.

The welfare-home director had been named Lei Zheng. At the time, she was a locally influential and somewhat notorious figure with a flamboyant personality, nicknamed “Tiger Lei.” Before the investigation, she had spent extravagantly enough to purchase several properties.

That was how the money had been made. Children were quietly transferred, and the profits went directly into private pockets. As for what kind of household ultimately received each child and whether that future brought fortune or disaster, who cared? They were left to fend for themselves.

“Which children were sold? Did the police try to recover them? Can you find any of the old records or lists here?” Yan Xiaodao asked quickly.

The section chief spread his hands across the desk and shook his head with drooping, indifferent eyes. As though he cared about any of that. No amount of cash could make him invent records that did not exist.

Ling He demanded sharply, “What happened to that trafficking scum of a director?”

The chief waved them off impatiently. “Lei Zheng probably got some light sentence and a fine at the time. Don’t know what happened afterward!”

Mao Zhixiu had stood silently behind them the entire time. On the way out, she suddenly stepped forward and slapped the section chief heavily on the shoulder, startling him badly enough that he nearly erupted. Immortal Mao raised her elegant brows and scraped her gaze across his fleshy face with open contempt. “Careful you don’t choke to death smoking too many dirty cigarettes.”

Once they left the corridor and returned to the open sunlight, Mao Zhixiu tossed the cigarette box stuffed with cash back to Mr. Yan.

Yan Xiaodao gave her a handsome smile, genuinely admiring Mao’s clean efficiency and straightforward temper. He raised a thumb. “Your hands are quicker than mine.”

For a moment, Xiaodao, Ling He, and Zhixiu all fell silent. They needed only exchange looks to understand the anger and discomfort in one another’s hearts. Coincidentally, all three people standing here today were orphans without fathers or mothers.

Ling He’s parents had died early. Both deaths had occurred under circumstances he knew and witnessed. He understood what happened but had been powerless to save either parent from a tragic fate.

Mao Zhixiu had been abandoned at birth and later placed into foster care. Many so-called foster homes accepted orphans merely to collect monthly government support and tax benefits. When Mao was a teenager, she retaliated with an ice axe against a foster father who had repeatedly tried to violate her, then ran away from home and never returned. That was how she eventually met Young Master Ling.

Yan Xiaodao did not even know who his biological father or mother truly were. He understood nothing about his real origins and had never wanted to investigate them deeply. A seven-foot man standing beneath heaven and earth could make a place for himself anywhere.

Mao Zhixiu complained irritably, “If Chen Jiu’s son really was sold away, we can search heaven and earth and still never find him! Maybe he didn’t even survive back then and starved to death years ago. Besides, would a child even have known who the murderer was?”

Ling He said softly, “If that’s the case, our only hope is Captain Xue somehow studying those rotten bones until he identifies the killer.”

Yan Xiaodao kept the information he knew buried inside. Working out the identity of a murderer from a pile of decaying bones was no easy task. He had no idea whether Yasha Xue would somehow activate a miracle this time.

The three walked once more along the pavement beside the wasteland that had once been the welfare home, passing the entrance to the English school. A car drove out through the school gates and passed directly before them. A parent accompanying a child bent at the waist toward the driver through the window. “Principal Lu, heading out?”

The driver was a middle-aged man of around forty-five. He narrowed his smiling eyes and waved with the dignified manner of a leader.

Several motorized tricycles temporarily blocked the sedan ahead. Yan Xiaodao found walking on crutches inconvenient but still hobbled forward, rested one hand on the window frame, and nodded politely. “Are you the principal of this English school?”

The middle-aged man inside wore a suit and looked refined and completely composed. “Ah, yes. Yes, I am.”

Yan Xiaodao quickly asked, “You’ve operated this school here for quite a few years, haven’t you? Do you know what used to stand next door?”

“Next door?” The man’s eyes hardly moved as he smiled perfunctorily. “No idea. Isn’t next door just wasteland?”

Mao Zhixiu’s voice was crisp and lively, as though she were biting into a fresh pear. She called out, “Principal, have you ever heard of a welfare home called Ci’en Hall that used to stand next door? Did you know anyone who worked there?”

The pupils beneath the middle-aged man’s lids visibly contracted. Something flickered in the brown depths like liquor shaken unexpectedly inside a clear glass, though his practiced expression returned to normal almost at once. “Heh. Really don’t know. Never heard of it.”

Mao efficiently moved the obstructing motorized tricycle aside. The man was just about to step on the gas and escape when a dripping industrial mop suddenly swung forward, its strips of cloth flailing, and slammed straight onto the windshield. A woman’s furious shouting pierced their ears. “Lu Qingyang, you’re still hiding! You cheating bastard! You run a scam school and make black money off people! Pay us back! Pay us back! Pay us back!”

Seven or eight troublemakers seemed to materialize from between the surrounding bodies. The only thing they lacked was a protest banner. Everything else was there. Pots, pans, basins, whatever could be grabbed, all came crashing against Principal Lu’s car. The disturbance erupted instantly.

Mao Zhixiu jumped in fright and quickly helped Yan Xiaodao out of range of the huge mop.

Ling He did not possess Mao’s monkey-like agility. Both hands he had extended to help somehow grabbed nothing. He watched Xiaodao get swept safely into Zhixiu’s arm. Even knowing perfectly well that Mao had no ulterior motive and had simply acted out of kindness, Ling He still disliked seeing Xiaodao’s body touch anyone else.

The school entrance had already been crowded. The moving stream of people around Principal Lu’s sedan scattered outward with a collective buzz, afraid of getting caught in the mess. Yet no one truly left. Instead, they instinctively formed a huge circle three layers deep around the vehicle, trapping it completely. This was the classic local art of gathering around a public spectacle. Everyone watched in curious excitement while maintaining solemn silence, savoring the unique pleasure of observing someone else’s disaster.

Making trouble outside a school could perhaps be called a “school disturbance.” Several angry men and women clung to Lu Qingyang’s windows, and an entire bottle of blue ink was poured straight inside. Lu Qingyang had no chance to resist. His previously respectable face was instantly covered by a thick indigo film, transforming him into a blue-painted opera character.

The middle-aged man’s dignified appearance and the respectable mask on which he relied for a living were torn apart in an instant. The true expression underneath changed completely.

The protesters began reciting, one grievance after another, every offense committed by this fraudulent school.

“Lu Qingyang, you swindling bastard who only recognizes money!”

“You put on the skin of some fake educator and run a predatory tutoring center with scam study-abroad packages. You can’t even speak a complete sentence in English. It’s all fraud!”

“You cheated parents out of more than a hundred thousand yuan, bragging that you could send our child straight to Australia with one click. You buried us in piles of English documents we couldn’t understand, and after all that what you actually arranged was Mauritius! Our kid wanted Australia! We paid you a hundred thousand so you could send us to Mauritius to look at monkeys?! Give us our money back!”

Xiaodao, Zhixiu, and Ling He squeezed shoulder to shoulder into the front row of spectators. By tacit agreement, all three folded their arms and watched with stunned expressions.

Eventually, security guards and police arrived and dispersed the commotion, rescuing Principal Lu from the crowd. Lu Qingyang was in an extraordinary state. He had apparently intended to go out on a date, but now filthy mop water and blue ink covered his face and body. Indigo pigment had dried into the grooves between his brows, eye corners, and nasolabial lines. With the mild surface of his appearance stripped away, faint traces of irritability and savagery emerged underneath.

A white cloth handkerchief was extended through the car window. Lu Qingyang snatched it irritably and roughly wiped his face.

The person offering it leaned closer to the window. A pair of exquisitely observant eyes studied him with sharp intelligence. “Principal Lu, you truly don’t know there used to be a welfare home beside your school?”

“What welfare home? It was demolished years ago!” Lu Qingyang looked up, saw the handsome long-haired face, and immediately shifted his eyes away.

“Indeed. Demolished more than ten years ago.” Ling He smiled. “There’s a gold sign outside your school celebrating its twelfth anniversary. Principal Lu has been in this area quite a long time himself, hasn’t he?”

The muscles above Lu Qingyang’s nasolabial lines twitched. “I said I don’t know! Are you police? What gives you the right to question me?”

“Do you know Lei Zheng?” Ling He abruptly locked onto the erratic light inside the man’s eyes. “Or are you Lei Zheng?”

“Who the hell is Lei Zheng? What kind of nonsense is that?” Lu Qingyang became so embarrassed and furious that he actually swore. “I’m a man. Can’t you see that? How the hell could I be Lei Zheng?!”

Talking without thinking, Lu Qingyang started the car as fast as he could and forced his way out through traffic.

This so-called educator did not possess a shred of the cultured dignity expected of someone teaching young people. Beneath the respectable exterior was the nature of a coarse village hustler. Calling him “principal” was almost an insult to the title. He was obviously another amateur who had entered the private tutoring and overseas-study business purely to make money.

Mao Zhixiu puzzled over his last sentence. “What does being a man have to do with it? Why couldn’t he be Lei Zheng? Isn’t Lei Zheng a man?”

Ling He and Xiaodao leaned their heads together over the list. A fascinating curve appeared at Ling He’s mouth as he looked up and exchanged a knowing glance with Yan Xiaodao. “Follow Lu Qingyang’s car.”

Immortal Mao possessed the long limbs and quick movements of the most agile primates, but her eyesight was ordinary. Being able to speak fluent Mandarin was already enough. Reading and writing could not be relied upon. She had not looked closely enough at the notes beside the name.

Names were sometimes merely misleading labels. A name filled with masculine strength did not necessarily belong to a masculine man. Ling He’s lips moved with amusement. “Principal Lu lied. He knows perfectly well that Lei Zheng, the so-called Tiger Lei, is a tigress.”

Lu Qingyang sped down the road with dried streaks of indigo liquid covering his body. Once the ink dried, the lines across his face seemed to sketch an even clearer and more truthful portrait.

Hmph. I know exactly what you people are trying to investigate. Ancient garbage from years ago. What’s there to investigate? We only privately found homes for a few children. We only made a little extra money from it. They were fatherless, motherless orphans, floating weeds whose lives weren’t worth anything. Without me feeding them back then, they would’ve starved beside the road and become dog food. They ought to thank me for the virtue and good deeds I accumulated in this life. As for what kind of families bought them and whether those lives turned out good or bad, that depended entirely on their own fortune before Buddha and Guanyin.

Some of them were even sold to Americans who came here specifically to buy children. You didn’t even have to take exams and suddenly you were overseas. Flowers ought to have bloomed on your ancestors’ graves!

If your life turned out badly later, don’t come bringing that bad luck back to me!

There are opportunities everywhere in this world to make money. Everything depends on whether your guts are fat enough and whether you dare reach out and take it.

So what if the orphanage got investigated and shut down? Within three years my family turned ourselves around completely and became the most successful people for miles!

Principal Lu had probably been quite handsome when he was younger and possessed some polished social charm. He had always earned money through a seductive appearance and a persuasive mouth. Even now in his forties, he remained an attractive middle-aged man. Yet at this moment, the blue-tinted face seemed to sprout two narrow green fangs from the corners of his drooping mouth, exposing the viciousness beneath.

Hmph. I know exactly who those people want information about. The damn police have come several times over the last few months asking questions. Aren’t they sick of it?

Another one came yesterday. Three sentences of evasive nonsense sent him off toward the northwest side of the city looking for the orphanage. Let that cop drive circles around the whole city and waste his time.

Principal Lu raced home, washed off the mess, changed into another well-cut suit, and worked styling gel through his hair until it shone. Once again dressed as a convincing industry professional, he was apparently heading for a date.

The middle-aged man had money, status, and a respectable household. Once the wallet swelled, comfort naturally gave birth to lust. If a man did not enjoy himself now, was he supposed to wait until he was seventy or eighty and could no longer perform? A person lived only once. Why deny himself? Lu Qingyang picked up the long-term mistress he maintained outside his marriage and drove toward a secluded part of a park. One hand remained on the steering wheel while the other rested smugly near his belt as he savored his success over the years. In the Three Rivers region, whatever business he entered, he had always sailed straight through.

Under the blazing midday sun, the middle-aged lovers parked in an isolated, wind-sheltered corner of the park and began an illicit encounter inside the car, behaving with little concern for where they were.

Not far behind Principal Lu’s vehicle, all three members of the surveillance team were packed into their own car and drawing lots to decide who had to go closer.

Mao Zhixiu, in the driver’s seat, raised one elegant shoulder and said crisply, “Gentlemen, don’t make a young lady handle this sort of thing. Why don’t the two of you play rock-paper-scissors?”

Ling He struck first and pointed at Yan Xiaodao. “Mr. Yan goes.”

Yan Xiaodao widened his eyes solemnly. “You were the one who suggested following him and catching him in the act. Boss Ling, after you.”

Ling He kept his face rigid. “I don’t want to look at that. Mr. Yan has the most experience.”

Yan Xiaodao snorted. “I have experience doing it, not spying on other people doing it.”

Mao Zhixiu became so irritated that she slapped the steering wheel and nearly hit the horn. She yanked her hand back in alarm and complained, “Are the two of you seriously going to waste this much time? What if that animal Lu is impotent or finishes in three minutes? Mr. Ling, by the time you stop arguing there won’t be any compromising evidence left to film!”

“…”

When a young woman spoke with absolutely no filter about such subjects, the two men in the back seat somehow became the silent ones.

Seeing that neither answered, Mao Zhixiu continued relentlessly. She turned around with a theatrical expression of sudden realization. “Right! Boss, I forgot. You’ve never even had a boyfriend. You’re still an innocent young man! You haven’t changed at all since the first time I met you. You probably don’t even know what premature ejaculation means!”

Ling He countered, “Brother Xiu, you understand it? Have you ever had a boyfriend?”

Mao Zhixiu snapped her delicate fingers and said shamelessly, “I learned everything from Hollywood movies!”

Yan Xiaodao covered half his face with a loosely clenched fist to hide his laughter. Life around Miss Mao truly did acquire a surprising amount of flavor.

No one knew exactly which sore spot she had struck in Ling He. He cursed quietly, “Filthy.”

After calling the pair of them filthy, Mr. Ling stopped wasting time. He grabbed his phone, pushed the door open, and went over himself.

Yan Xiaodao’s position gave him a perfect view for surveillance, but his eyes were no longer watching Lu Qingyang at all. His entire field of vision followed Ling He. Ling He was rapidly taking photographs through the window while turning his face away in obvious disgust, plainly unwilling to look directly at the middle-aged pair. The whole business seemed to offend him deeply.

Yet Mr. Ling had always been willing to use whatever means worked. He searched for the quickest and most efficient route toward his objective and had no objection to employing methods that could never be displayed proudly in public.

With Ling He temporarily away from them, the opportunity was rare. Mao Zhixiu lit a thin cigarette and met Yan Xiaodao’s eyes through the rearview mirror. “Mr. Yan, you’ve noticed something strange about my boss too, haven’t you?”

“He has some psychological barriers in that area. There are physical problems too. Such a beautiful person… what a waste. It really is unfortunate. I tried persuading him to see a specialist or a psychologist, but he refused. Once, a bunch of us watched an adult European movie at the villa. He couldn’t respond to it at all.”

Yan Xiaodao was suddenly handed such private information about Ling He and did not even know what to ask first or from which direction to ask it. A tangle of feelings churned inside him as he stared into Mao Zhixiu’s eyes through the mirror.

Mao exhaled a gray-white smoke ring carrying an almost melancholy artistic quality. “You know what happened to him before.”

“What?” Yan Xiaodao blurted. All these days he had maintained an outward appearance of complete indifference, as though the relationship in the past was over and he would never look back. In reality, he cared about absolutely everything involving Ling He.

“I’ve known Mr. Ling for many years. I know every upheaval and misfortune he experienced. That’s why I’m willing to help him.” Mao Zhixiu’s voice remained calm. “Mr. Yan, ask him yourself. If one day he tells you everything honestly, that means he is finally willing.”

Having said exactly enough, Mao stopped speaking and refused to give him another useful word. She simply continued smoking.

The tactic struck Yan Xiaodao directly in his weakest place. It practically hooked into his heart and soul and pulled.

For many days afterward, Mao Zhixiu’s words continued turning over and over in his mind. Precisely because he had heard certain rumors and scattered traces from the jianghu that stained Ling He’s name with ugly implications, he found himself unable to ask the man directly. Ultimately, the reason was still that he cared and felt pain for him.

Ling He recorded only a little over a minute. It was more than enough material for blackmail.

At the most compromising moment of the encounter, the two adults inside suddenly heard fingers tapping lightly against the car window. Lu Qingyang turned his head, sweat on his eyelids, and saw Mr. Ling standing outside with an openly mocking expression.

The shock destroyed Principal Lu’s composure at once. He scrambled to cover himself and looked mortified in front of his mistress.

Ling He glanced into the car with disgust. Lu’s lover was middle-aged as well and hurriedly covered herself with clothing in panic, evidently someone else’s wife sneaking out for an affair.

“What the hell are you filming?!” Lu Qingyang’s shirt and trousers were still disordered, his buttons fastened into the wrong holes, his carefully styled hair turned into a sticky lump of gel and sweat. He breathed angrily. “What do you actually want? You’re just trying to ask about Ci’en Hall, aren’t you?”

Ling He went straight to the point. “You know Lei Zheng. Who is she?”

Lu Qingyang glared but had not yet answered when his mistress answered for him. “Isn’t that the Tiger Lei from your family? Hmph. The one who said she’d hack me to death with a kitchen knife!”

Lu Qingyang deflated immediately and had nothing left to say.

“So that’s it.” Ling He raised his brows in realization. “Principal Lu, apparently yours is a husband-and-wife criminal enterprise. You spent half your lives trafficking people. The only difference is that back then you ran a welfare home and sold orphans outward, while now you run an English school and sell students off to third- and fourth-rate countries?”

“Selling orphans from a welfare home?” His mistress looked shocked too. “Lu Qingyang, I thought a coward like you only dared sell fake documents and kidneys. You sold children? Isn’t that a crime?”

Ling He had no interest in wasting more words. He raised his phone, an invisible blade aimed directly at Principal Lu’s heart. “Should I send this to the tigress in your house, or to the male tiger in your second madam’s household? Perhaps I should send both copies for everyone’s enjoyment?”

“If this were ancient times, the two of you would be drowned together in a pig cage. So confess.”

“…”

Lu Qingyang pulled on his suit jacket, made a show of smoothing his hair, and finally gave up pretending. “You only want to ask about that Chen bastard’s son, don’t you? I never sold him. Whether he lived or died has nothing to do with me!”

Yan Xiaodao had already come up behind Ling He on his crutches. He asked the question he cared about most. “Where is Chen Jiu’s son now, and what is his name?”

Lu Qingyang snorted contemptuously. “Chen Jiu was a murderer. What good thing could a murderer possibly raise?”

“His son was no easy child either. During the two years he stayed at Ci’en Hall, he was an extremely difficult troublemaker. We wanted to sell him early on, but we couldn’t even find a buyer. Who would willingly buy a boy with such an unpleasant personality?”

“Later, he ran away. Ate my food, wore my clothes, and remembered none of the kindness. He simply fled. Ungrateful little wolf. Didn’t earn me a single cent!”

“More than ten years later, I happened to run into him on the street. That kid has a distinctive face, vicious-looking enough that I recognized him immediately despite all those years.” Lu Qingyang suddenly gave an ugly, malicious laugh. “Never thought he’d dare remain nearby. He even managed to get into university. He must’ve been terrified of meeting someone who knew his background, because he deliberately changed his name.”

“He used to be called Chen Peng, the peng with the grass radical above the character for an ordinary person. A worthless weed born with a cheap life, so the name suited him perfectly! He hated it and said the name brought bad luck, so later he quietly changed it. Unfortunately, changing a name doesn’t erase a lowly birth or a despised family. He changed it to a character with the jade radical, dreaming of turning himself into some noble young lord or prince. Hah. Daydreaming.”

Ling He delivered his threat cleanly. “Then please trouble Principal Lu to hand over every record you still have about the person formerly known as Chen Peng. In return, I’ll give you the video on my phone. Otherwise, tomorrow morning everyone in the city will be able to enjoy this excellent short film, complete with sound and emotion, on the giant screen across from Youersi School.”
