ST – Chapter 45: How to Make a Demon Happy

Lan Xi was put back in the bedroom.

Having just cursed everyone out, Lan Xi gradually felt much better.

He watched Fu Hui walk away and watched him close the door.

Lan Xi licked his lips. The lingering taste of blood was still in his mouth, and he could not resist licking it again and again before finally leaning against the headboard, drawing up his knees, and wrapping his arms around himself.

Fu Hui walking away like that made him a little unhappy.

But he would have been unhappy if Fu Hui stayed too.

Oh. Maybe Fu Hui had gone to deal with the injury on his face.

Lan Xi touched his own teeth.

He had not bitten that hard… He had already let Fu Hui go before his fangs fully came out.

Lan Xi drifted off into a daze again.

Fu Hui returned to the reception room. A bodyguard brought over a first-aid kit and tended to his injury.

“You still haven’t left?” Fu Hui gave Wen Yue a lukewarm glance.

“Mr. Fu, I’m not that stupid. I can tell something is very wrong with Lan Xi right now. So… no matter what Lan Xi said, I’m not leaving like this.”

Wen Yue forced himself to pull together and asked, “What exactly happened to Lan Xi?”

Fu Hui summarized it concisely. “He thought we were angels and believed we should have wings.”

Wen Yue could not understand it. “Why would he think that?”

The subject reminded Wen Yue of something else. “Mr. Fu, did you find out where Lan Xi came from?”

“No.” Fu Hui answered only the second question.

Even Fu Hui could not find anything… Wen Yue fell silent.

He could not actually have fallen from the sky, could he?

Because Lan Xi had a habit of taking off his clothes at the slightest opportunity, Fu Hui initially insisted on personally watching the surveillance feed.

But staying awake night after night was too much even for a man made of iron, especially when Fu Hui still had plenty of matters waiting for him during the day.

Night fell.

Fu Hui pushed open the door, lifted the covers, and lay down beside Lan Xi.

Lan Xi immediately rolled over warily, fixing both eyes on him. He said nothing, but his entire face clearly said that Fu Hui was not welcome.

Fu Hui pretended not to notice. He forcibly wrapped an arm around Lan Xi’s shoulders, then rested his head against him and said hoarsely, “I’m exhausted, Lan Xi.”

Lan Xi smelled a faint medicinal scent on Fu Hui’s face.

Instinctively, Lan Xi turned his face away to avoid the unpleasant smell. That only gave Fu Hui the opportunity to press closer and wedge his face against the side of Lan Xi’s neck.

“Fu Hui!” Lan Xi suddenly raised his voice.

“Lan Xi, if I don’t sleep soon, I’ll die.” Fu Hui calmly stated it as a fact.

Lan Xi pressed his lips together, his face dark, but said nothing.

Fu Hui was holding him so tightly.

So, so tightly.

But perhaps because Fu Hui was holding him so firmly, Lan Xi no longer had to keep his own body drawn quite so tense.

Lan Xi slowly relaxed his limbs and curled farther into Fu Hui’s embrace.

Fu Hui was like a clam shell that had enclosed him inside. Lan Xi’s thoughts wandered nonsensically.

He felt Fu Hui’s nose pressed against the side of his neck, his breathing so, so hot…

Lan Xi became a little annoyed again.

He isn’t even a seraph. Why is his breathing so hot?

Lan Xi kicked Fu Hui’s calf, but Fu Hui seemed to have fallen asleep very quickly and did not move at all.

“Fu Hui…” Lan Xi called softly.

Only the sound of the wind answered him.

“Fu Hui, will you die if you don’t sleep?”

“…”

“Then if you die, will you go to Hell?”

Fu Hui jolted and abruptly opened his eyes. The sleepiness that had only just descended over him disappeared completely.

He answered quickly and with absolute certainty, “No!”

Afraid Lan Xi would not believe him, he added, “No one knows where people go when they die. All I know is that once a person dies, there’s nothing left. Food they once loved can never be tasted again, things they once loved can never be seen again…”

Lan Xi suddenly said, “You lied to me. You weren’t asleep at all.”

Fu Hui’s voice stopped.

Lan Xi felt better and closed his eyes to sleep.

After a long while.

Fu Hui sighed softly. “Mm. I lied to you. It was my fault.”

“…”

“Lan Xi?”

Fu Hui raised a hand and gently cupped his face.

Lan Xi remained motionless and let him hold it.

The skin in Fu Hui’s palm was soft and warm. Unable to resist, he sat up and carefully studied Lan Xi, only then realizing that he really had fallen asleep.

His long, thick lashes cast a small shadow beneath his eyes.

Fu Hui’s heart softened unconsciously as well.

He gave another quiet sigh inside.

Never in the past would he have imagined himself having a day like this…

He drifted into thought. By the time he realized what he was doing, his fingers had already stroked Lan Xi’s eyelashes.

Under the dim light, there seemed almost to be a faint purple sheen moving across Lan Xi’s lashes.

But when Fu Hui looked more closely, he could no longer make it out.

In the morning, Lan Xi woke and discovered that Fu Hui was still holding him tightly.

He froze.

Actually, over the past several days, Fu Hui had rarely come to hold him while they slept. At first, that was because Lan Xi did not want to see him. Later, it was probably because of Lan Xi’s words, I shouldn’t have slept with you… Was Fu Hui very hurt?

Can he feel hurt?

He can feel hurt too?

Thinking that, Lan Xi stared at Fu Hui’s face.

Fu Hui did smile around him. Strangely, it was when Fu Hui was angry that it was harder to tell…

Fu Hui suddenly opened his eyes. Rather than waking naturally, it looked more as though he had been startled awake.

His first movement was to tighten his arms. Only after confirming that the person in his embrace was still there did Fu Hui’s gaze focus on Lan Xi.

“What do you want to eat?” he asked hoarsely.

Lan Xi ignored him.

Fu Hui seemed accustomed to it. He threw back the covers and got out of bed first, continuing on his own. “How about a buffet?”

Lan Xi said nothing.

But Fu Hui had already turned around and gone out to arrange it.

Lan Xi rolled over and lay on the spot where Fu Hui had been sleeping. The warmth of another person still remained there, almost as though Fu Hui’s embrace had wrapped around Lan Xi again.

Before long, Fu Hui quietly returned.

At first glance, Lan Xi appeared to have disappeared from the bed.

His thin body formed only a faint rise beneath the blanket. Fu Hui steadied himself before lifting it.

—And immediately saw Lan Xi lying on the spot where he had slept.

Fu Hui’s heart pounded violently.

But he still pretended everything was perfectly ordinary. “Lan Xi, let’s go eat breakfast.”

Lan Xi kept his face buried and still did not move.

So Fu Hui became his legs, picking him up and carrying him away to wash up.

Fu Hui being obedient to his every wish left Lan Xi deeply confused.

While brushing his teeth, Lan Xi deliberately opposed him by swallowing a mouthful of foamy water.

The expression Fu Hui had been struggling to keep calm finally changed. He caught Lan Xi’s face with one hand, immediately pushed his fingers into his mouth, and said sternly, “Lan Xi, spit it out!”

Lan Xi looked sideways at him and said lightly, “This is the real you.”

The sentence stopped Fu Hui cold.

Fu Hui’s expression changed several times in rapid succession, but his fingers still firmly pressed toward the root of Lan Xi’s tongue. After he pressed hard twice, Lan Xi spat the foamy water back out.

Lan Xi’s expression immediately went cold, and he stared icily at Fu Hui.

Fu Hui leaned in and kissed him instead, licking away the last traces of foam left in his mouth.

Lan Xi angrily bit him in return.

But even then, Fu Hui did not pull away immediately.

He slowly licked across Lan Xi’s lips. Faint blood stained both their mouths red before Fu Hui finally straightened again.

“Don’t eat everything you see,” Fu Hui said gently. After a pause, he continued, “Yes. I still haven’t changed enough. Sometimes I’m still too fierce… but I’ll eventually change.”

Lan Xi could not resist saying, “You mean you haven’t gotten good enough at pretending yet.”

Fu Hui did not answer that.

He continued washing Lan Xi’s face.

Lan Xi smacked his hand away with a pa.

Fu Hui did not mind. “Fine. Don’t wash it.”

Fu Hui carried him to the dining room.

Lan Xi still stopped eating after only two bites.

Whenever this happened, Fu Hui inevitably felt terrible, but he suppressed it and changed the subject. “How about Luo Jin taking you out to play today? Want to go to the mall?”

Lan Xi said nothing. He could not even be bothered to raise an eyebrow.

“Then how about Luo Jin comes here to play with you?”

“…”

“Want to go to school? You’re already sick of junior-high lessons, so how about high school?”

One word popped out of Lan Xi’s mouth. “No.”

He had studied so he could conquer Heaven. Now there was no Heaven for him to conquer.

“I bought that banquet hall you liked so much last time,” Fu Hui suddenly said. “It’s yours.”

I can’t take it back to Hell anyway.

Lan Xi kept his head lowered.

“I had new business cards printed for you.”

Lan Xi suddenly shot him a sideways glare.

Fu Hui knew he was probably about to say, “You’re so noisy,” again.

Fu Hui could only quit while he was ahead and leave first.

Wearing his long robe, Lan Xi wandered aimlessly around the large residence.

The bodyguards did not dare follow him and could only switch constantly between surveillance feeds to watch his movements.

Lan Xi rounded a long corridor and suddenly heard Fu Hui speaking with someone.

“What’s this?”

“Wings.” Wen Yue’s voice answered.

Wings? Curious, Lan Xi poked his head out and saw Wen Yue.

When had Wen Yue arrived? And judging by his appearance, he had already been staying here for several days.

A pile of craft materials lay at his feet, while two people behind him worked busily. Two enormous wings had been mounted on a metal frame, with a white skeletal structure covered layer by layer in feathers.

Wen Yue was making wings!

But they reeked of chicken!

If Lan Xi were an angel and grew something like that for wings, he would kill himself on the spot!

Lan Xi was furious.

Did Wen Yue really think he was that easy to fool?

Fu Hui: “…Do you think Lan Xi is stupid?”

Wen Yue said, “Then does Mr. Fu have a better idea? …We have to try something.”

Lan Xi simply walked out.

With his back to Lan Xi, Wen Yue was still speaking. “I hired two special-effects makeup artists…”

Halfway through the sentence, he suddenly felt a chill behind him. Wen Yue turned around, and his voice instantly died.

Lan Xi stared at him expressionlessly. “You’re even more annoying now.”

Wen Yue looked as though a death sentence had just been handed down in court.

A club straight to the head.

He froze in place.

Fu Hui immediately took two steps toward Lan Xi. “Wen Yue is pretty annoying.”

Lan Xi looked at him in confusion. “Why is Wen Yue here?”

Fu Hui had not yet spoken.

Wen Yue answered first. “Mr. Fu kept me here so we could pool our ideas and… cheer you up.” By comparison, Wen Yue’s words sounded positively angelic.

Fu Hui’s behavior was much more like a demon’s.

But Lan Xi only became more confused.

He remembered the way Fu Hui had previously worn a cold expression and firmly forbidden him from getting involved with other people.

That was precisely why Fu Hui had locked him up here in the first place.

And now…

“Fu Hui, are you crazy?” Lan Xi asked seriously.

Fu Hui: “…”
