Wen Yue had obviously offended Lan Xi very badly.
Why?
Because he did not have wings.
Fu Hui felt a headache coming on—he did not have wings either.
Who in this world had wings???
Perhaps he should count himself lucky that Lan Xi had at least not told him, I never want to see you again either.
“Lan Xi, shall we go to an amusement park?” Fu Hui tried again.
“…”
“Skydiving?”
“…”
“You haven’t tried diving yet. How about we go diving?”
The tips of Lan Xi’s ears twitched. He turned over and pointed his butt at Fu Hui.
“I’ll have Grimshaw send the little shark over. We can keep a shark?”
Lan Xi’s ear tips twitched again. His voice was muffled. “You’re so annoying. Stop talking.”
Fu Hui: “…”
Fu Hui could only shut up.
He sat beside Lan Xi like that for quite a while before Lan Xi suddenly said, “You’re disturbing me.”
Fu Hui said, “I’m not talking.”
Lan Xi frowned. “Your breathing is disturbing me.”
“…”
The rustling of wind beating against the leaves in the courtyard and the whistling of the curtains were both much louder than Fu Hui’s breathing.
Fu Hui opened his mouth, closed it, then opened it again. “I’ll breathe more quietly.”
Lan Xi was still dissatisfied. “Get out.”
So in the end, Lan Xi did not want to see him either?
Fu Hui chewed up and swallowed the countless tangled emotions inside him before rising. “…Fine.”
The moment he stepped outside, a bodyguard handed him a tablet. The screen clearly displayed the surveillance footage from the bedroom.
There were several camera angles, showing Lan Xi’s current state as completely as possible.
After driving Fu Hui out, Lan Xi did not feel any happier.
This was Fu Hui’s place. Where could he possibly drive Fu Hui away to?
This was not his home.
There was nowhere in this world that belonged to him.
Lan Xi rolled over again.
And on the surveillance feed, Fu Hui clearly saw tears fall from Lan Xi’s eyes.
Silently, secretly, they soaked two or three round spots into the pillow before slowly spreading together.
Who had ever seen Lan Xi cry?
Apparently no one.
He was always baring his claws and fangs, smug and triumphant. Even when he deliberately behaved sweetly, he could never entirely conceal his arrogance and sharp edges.
But now Lan Xi was crying.
Fu Hui felt as though an invisible pair of hands were pulling and stretching one of his nerves. A sharp point of pain pierced into him, accompanied by the anxiety of not knowing when that nerve might finally snap.
His hand settled on the door.
Go inside?
Or pretend I didn’t see?
His fingers tightened, the veins standing out on the back of his hand.
In the end, he truly could not endure it.
Even if Lan Xi cried endlessly, Fu Hui would still rather he cried in his arms than alone against a pillow.
Fu Hui pushed the door open hard. It made a dull sound, warning Lan Xi that he had returned.
Hearing the noise, Lan Xi immediately sat up on the bed with his back to Fu Hui. Nobody knew what he thought about, but suddenly he forced out, “Maybe I should leave.”
Fu Hui’s vision nearly went black. “Where are you going?”
How would Lan Xi know?
He thought for a while longer before finally finding one loose thread amid his chaotic thoughts. Right. He needed to find a way to locate Hell.
He needed to return to Hell.
Yes. He needed to go back to Hell!
But Fu Hui seemed to know what he was thinking and suddenly said in a deep voice, “Lan Xi, you know I’m very capable. No matter what you want to do, I’ll help you.”
But what could Fu Hui help him with?
He was not an angel.
Lan Xi did not turn around or make a sound.
Fu Hui slowly approached.
With Lan Xi’s back still facing him, Fu Hui suddenly pulled him into his arms.
Lan Xi abruptly turned his head and bit Fu Hui’s shoulder.
But through the fabric, his teeth could not bite through.
He shifted his head and bit Fu Hui’s cheek instead. Before long, he tasted blood.
Lan Xi vented all his dissatisfaction and resentment. Fu Hui gave a soft hiss and tilted his head slightly, as though trying to avoid his attack.
That stirred Lan Xi’s ferocity. He twisted around completely and wrapped both arms tightly around Fu Hui’s waist.
Fu Hui engaged in a mild tug-of-war with him.
Lan Xi promptly knocked him down onto the bed.
Lan Xi was like a little beast. All his tears rubbed onto Fu Hui’s face as he trembled faintly in Fu Hui’s arms.
He thought furiously, You’re not even an angel!
And you still dared to be mean to me before?
You’re not even an angel!
I don’t care about you anymore!
Lan Xi’s teeth ground against Fu Hui’s skin.
The tips of his fangs gradually began to emerge.
—They could probably punch two holes straight through Fu Hui’s face.
Like a stapler.
Then when Fu Hui drank water, it would leak out.
Lan Xi was caught off guard by his own thought and nearly laughed.
He abruptly released his bite, turned his face away, and rested his head on Fu Hui’s shoulder. His sideways gaze caught sight of Fu Hui’s rolled-up shirt sleeve and the twisted bloody scrape across his exposed arm.
It had been left behind when Fu Hui forcibly squeezed his arm into the hollow in the artificial rockery.
Fu Hui isn’t an angel. He’s so fragile. Even something like that can hurt him.
Lan Xi drifted slightly, but Fu Hui suddenly lifted a hand to cup the back of his neck and pulled him even tighter into his arms.
Fragile Fu Hui.
He’s pretty strong, though.
“Sir.” A bodyguard cautiously knocked on the door. “Wen Yue is here.”
“I thought you might want to see him, so I called him over,” Fu Hui said.
Lan Xi slowly loosened his arms around him and answered, “Oh.” His tone was still listless. “Fine. I’ll see him.”
Perfect. The demon had something to say.
Lan Xi remained curled up without moving.
Fu Hui considered for a moment, then simply picked him up and carried him out.
…
When Wen Yue received the call, he almost thought he had heard wrong.
Fu Hui had actually said he would send someone to bring Wen Yue up the mountain to see Lan Xi…
Was this a trap?
After a moment of suspicion, Wen Yue still chose to accept.
He sat stiffly upright in the reception room without touching the tea a bodyguard had brought him.
At last, he heard footsteps.
Why is there only one set of footsteps?
Wen Yue turned and saw Lan Xi leaning in Fu Hui’s arms, his head drooping slightly, his face pale and his brows faintly drawn together. He looked as though he had been sick for several days.
Wen Yue’s heart jolted hard, and his gaze immediately shifted to Fu Hui.
Then he saw the distinct, bloody bite mark on Fu Hui’s face.
Wen Yue opened his mouth. The angry question that had already reached his lips was swallowed back down.
“Lan Xi… is he sick?”
“No.” Fu Hui placed Lan Xi on the sofa. “He’s just not very happy.”
After saying that, he lowered his head and asked Lan Xi, “Do you want to speak to Wen Yue alone?” He paused. “I can leave.”
The generosity gave Wen Yue goosebumps.
Lan Xi looked at Fu Hui in surprise too. “No need.”
For some reason, hearing those words made Wen Yue suddenly tense.
Then Lan Xi spoke. “I really dislike you.”
For an instant, Wen Yue even forgot to breathe.
Even Fu Hui, merely watching from the side, felt his heart skip a beat.
Lan Xi looked at Wen Yue without much emotion. “You don’t need to compensate me anymore. Don’t look for me. We don’t need to see each other ever again.”
Wen Yue clenched his fist and turned toward Fu Hui. “Is this because Mr. Fu demanded it?”
Lan Xi said, “What does it have to do with him?”
Wen Yue’s expression grew even stiffer, and for a moment he almost thought Fu Hui had become the victor.
But Lan Xi immediately added, “I already said I really dislike you. Fu Hui is very annoying too.”
“…” An indescribably terrifying silence abruptly fell over the reception room.
“It’s annoying when you always look gloomy. It’s annoying when you don’t listen to me. It’s annoying when you think I’m stupid. It’s annoying when you decide things on your own and control me…” Lan Xi paused before saying expressionlessly, “You’re already this annoying, and you don’t even have wings.”
He said coldly, “You have no value at all.”
Wen Yue’s lips went numb. He could not speak. His face turned green, but he did not dare let it turn too green.
After all, Lan Xi had already said it was annoying when he always looked gloomy.
Lan Xi then asked, “Where’s Wen Ming?”
Only then did Wen Yue find his voice. “He didn’t come… Mr. Fu didn’t invite him.”
“Oh.” Lan Xi paused. “Call him.”
Wen Yue’s eyelid twitched, and he hoarsely called, “Lan Xi…”
Lan Xi said coldly, “Call him.”
Wen Yue pressed his lips together tightly. In the end, he still took out his phone and called Wen Ming.
The moment Wen Ming answered, he asked, “You’re there? How is everything?”
“I saw Lan Xi…”
“That’s good!”
“He has something to say to you.”
Wen Ming abruptly fell silent before asking in disbelief, “Really?”
That was wonderful…
At that moment, Lan Xi bent slightly and moved closer. “Wen Ming.”
The instant Wen Ming truly heard Lan Xi’s voice, even his breathing stopped for a moment. He unconsciously called softly, “Lan Xi… you’re not…” still angry, are you?
He never managed to say the remaining words.
“You’re pretty annoying too,” Lan Xi said.
Wen Yue closed his eyes.
As though he himself were undergoing the same slow torture.
“You have a terrible temper. You’re impulsive, always getting angry, always sneering. Aren’t you the stupid one?”
“…” Wen Ming was stunned speechless by the scolding.
Lan Xi tugged at the corner of his mouth. “You’re already this awful, and you don’t even have wings.”
He said, “You don’t have any value either.”
Wen Ming’s breathing stopped. After a long while, he forced out hoarsely, “Mm… I’m sorry.”
“Neither of you should come see me anymore.” Lan Xi turned his gaze and swept it around the room. “All of you are annoying. I dislike all of you.”
His eyes briefly met Fu Hui’s.
But Lan Xi quickly looked away again.
Lan Xi said softly, “I hate Fu Hui the most.”
Even Wen Yue’s heart trembled when he heard Lan Xi use the word “hate.”
Wen Yue instinctively turned to look at Fu Hui.
Fu Hui looked surprisingly calm. Only the blood on his face added something strange and unsettling to his appearance.
“I hate it most when you suddenly change your attitude,” Lan Xi said. “I hate when you…” He got stuck.
It seemed the thing he hated most was still that moment when Fu Hui had discovered he was not a “mute girl” and suddenly turned cold toward him.
Unable to explain it, Lan Xi simply stopped trying.
He drooped his head tiredly and let out a faint breath.
“Everyone leave,” he said.
Only after saying it did he remember something was wrong. He had forgotten again—this was Fu Hui’s home.
Lan Xi tilted his head toward Fu Hui, his gaze shifting. “You’re really angry, aren’t you?” He raised his chin. “Do you want to throw me out?”
It was almost a deliberate act of self-destruction.
Fu Hui took a deep breath, walked over, picked Lan Xi up again, and turned to leave. “No.”
Every muscle in Fu Hui’s body trembled slightly from being drawn too tight. He repeated, “I’m not angry.”
The words sounded as though they had been forcibly squeezed out of his throat. “You’re right. I’ll change.”
Lan Xi stared at him in surprise.
Fu Hui lifted a hand and stroked his hair. The touch was gentle, yet every pass seemed strangely forceful.
He lightly clenched his teeth and said, “Lan Xi, I don’t care how much you regret sleeping with me. I don’t know what rules you demons have…”
Lan Xi was stunned.
He just knows I’m a demon? He just accepted it like that?
Fu Hui followed Lan Xi’s own line of thinking. “But according to human rules, you can’t sleep with me and then dump me.”
Lan Xi could not stop himself from retorting, “Bullshit! There’s no such rule!”
Seeing that Lan Xi finally had enough energy to argue with him, Fu Hui at last felt the enormous weight pressing against his throat ease a little.
