Speaking of Shi Chan, Ke Bu suddenly realized that she was actually among the student council members too. She poked her head out from behind Bao Ji Lei and made a face at him. So what exactly was going on here? Ke Bu turned around. Zhang Luo was picking his nose, Gong Zhu was messaging someone… If Ke Bu ever became the protagonist of some hot-blooded anime, he absolutely would not choose this group as his comrades!
“It’s really not a serious problem. Just pay more attention from now on. I only came over to take a look. After all, this is the first time we’ve had direct contact.” She really was much easier to talk to than Yan Feng. After watching the student council members leave, Ke Bu sat down on the sofa. From the corner of his eye, he noticed Su You Yan and Zhi Li talking, but their voices were too quiet for him to hear anything. Ke Bu didn’t think too deeply about what was strange about Bao Ji Lei. He hadn’t sensed any hostility from her, and besides, Sheng Jie Academy had so many weird people that trying to understand every single one would exhaust him to death. Finals were coming soon. Ke Bu would rather put his energy into his grades. If he did as badly as last semester again, his parents would worry.
“You Yan, please. I know I only just did something that hurt you, but could you be my tutor for a while?!”
“Why don’t you ask me?” Zhi Li asked.
“I already told you the reason before, didn’t I?”
“I want to be your tutor.”
“Please let me decide that myself.”
Zhi Li acted as though he hadn’t heard Ke Bu and had already decided on his behalf. “I’m your tutor now.”
“I asked You Yan!”
“She was going to reject you anyway.”
“Then I’ll tutor myself.”
“Lessons start tomorrow.”
Ke Bu’s objections carried no weight whatsoever. By the time classes ended the next day, he had already forgotten the matter completely. He had only mentioned it casually in the first place. Yawning, Ke Bu went to the supermarket and bought an ice-cold Coke. He had only just twisted off the cap when someone snatched it away. Then a black cloth was pulled over his head, plunging his vision into darkness. Ke Bu cursed, “Yutai, Xiu Jie, you know I can still see your legs and shoes, right?”
“So what if you can? We’re only trying to create an effect.”
“Hey, where are you taking me? Slow down.”
After being half dragged and half hauled into a classroom, Ke Bu pulled off the black cloth. He was just about to start cursing when Chu Hao Yu and Ying Xiu Jie fled at top speed.
“Why are you running so fast? Finally scared of me?”
“Scared of you? We’re scared Zhi Li will drag us into class with you.”
“Class?” Ke Bu was still confused when Zhi Li’s voice floated over from behind him. “How long are you going to make me wait?” Only then did Ke Bu remember what had happened yesterday.
“You were serious?”
“Call me Teacher. Sit properly.”
“You’re interested in roleplaying too?” Ke Bu teased as he pulled out a chair and sat down. Zhi Li held a pen against his shoulder.
“Is that how you speak to your teacher?”
“Sorry, Teacher.” Ke Bu apologized listlessly.
“Mm.”
Looking around, Ke Bu only now realized this wasn’t the classroom their class normally used. Not that the reason mattered. He looked down into the desk. It was completely empty, so he spread both hands. “No books, no notebook, no pen. How exactly do you expect me to study?” Zhi Li tossed him the pen. “Write anything you can’t remember on your hand.”
“I’m not an elementary-school kid.”
“Do what your teacher tells you. Didn’t your boyfriend ever teach you to respect teachers and elders?” Zhi Li asked without emotion. Ke Bu shook his head. “He didn’t.”
“What don’t you understand?” Zhi Li directly ignored Ke Bu’s reply.
“I need the book before I can point out what I don’t understand, don’t I? If you suddenly ask me to think of something from memory, how am I supposed to come up with it?”
“I’ve never taught such a troublesome student.”
“Stop talking like you’ve been a teacher for years!” Ke Bu’s backtalk earned him only a stern look. Since it looked obviously fake, Ke Bu felt absolutely nothing. Zhi Li took out his phone and spoke into it. “Report your coordinates.” Ke Bu leaned over until his face was almost against Zhi Li’s arm and stared at the phone. “When did you join the group chat?”
“Just now.”
Replies appeared one after another.
Su You Yan: Library.
Gong Zhu: Supermarket.
Zhang Luo: My rented place off campus.
Ying Xiu Jie: Dormitory (boys’ dormitory).
Chu Hao Yu: On a bus into the city.
Zhou Xin He: Club building.
From that list, Ke Bu could tell that Chu Hao Yu was definitely lying. There was no way he could have moved that quickly. He had probably guessed that Zhi Li wanted to see who was nearby enough to run an errand and lied to escape. Zhi Li spoke into the phone again. “Chu Hao Yu, bring Ke Bu’s books over.”
“Wasn’t the point of asking for coordinates to see who was closest?”
“No.”
“Then why did you ask everyone for their coordinates?!”
“Don’t make me wait too long.” Zhi Li put his phone back into his bag. Sure enough, it wasn’t long before Chu Hao Yu delivered the books. He glared at Ke Bu with hatred for a very long time before leaving. Since things had already reached this point, Ke Bu could only accept it. He opened the book and pointed something out to Zhi Li. “I don’t really understand this part.”
“Didn’t the teacher already explain it?” Ke Bu heard the faint mockery perfectly clearly and exploded.
“The whole reason I want tutoring is because I still didn’t understand it after the teacher explained it!”
“Can’t you look it up online?”
“Are you actually serious about tutoring me?” Ke Bu asked solemnly. Zhi Li shook his head. Ke Bu tightened his grip on the book. “Then why did you have them drag me here?”
“There’s sunlight outside. I don’t want to leave this building for the moment, and I’m a little bored.” Zhi Li’s honest answer failed to earn Ke Bu’s understanding. The thought that he had actually taken this seriously made his teeth itch. But finals were already approaching, and the sensible thing was to use the opportunity to clear up everything he still didn’t understand. Ke Bu caught Zhi Li’s index finger and tugged it. “I did badly last time and my mom nagged me for an entire month. Do a good deed and help me.”
“Acting spoiled?”
“Call it whatever you want.” Ke Bu closed his eyes and puckered his lips, clearly asking for a kiss. Zhi Li lowered his head, but just before the kiss landed, Ke Bu blocked his mouth. “No kissing until the exams are over. Sorry. This is also to make you take tutoring me seriously.” When Ke Bu lowered his hand, Zhi Li pinched his cheek, squeezing his lips into a pout before letting go. “Are you negotiating terms with me?”
“Can’t I?”
“You can. But I have another question.”
“What question?”
Ke Bu didn’t even have time to blink before Zhi Li kissed him. “The question is, can you actually stop me?” Ke Bu was about to protest violently when Zhi Li cut him off. “Which problem did you say you didn’t understand?”
