Lan Xi didn’t understand.
So what?
He cut in. “If no money… how support me?”
Liang Yuecheng’s voice stopped dead.
It was rare to see anyone state something like that with such complete confidence. But after thinking about it carefully, he couldn’t exactly say Lan Xi was wrong. Keeping a beauty certainly wasn’t cheap. Beauty required money to maintain.
At that thought, Liang Yuecheng cautiously peeked at Fu Hui’s expression. Unfortunately, he couldn’t read anything from it.
Then he met Fu Hui’s eyes.
Pitch-black and unfathomably deep.
Liang Yuecheng shuddered as he heard Fu Hui ask, “What exactly do you understand?”
Was I wrong?
He wasn’t trying to help me?
Then again, of course not. Since when was Fu Hui benevolent enough to concern himself with Liang Yuecheng’s affairs?
Then why does the atmosphere feel this tense and suffocating?
Liang Yuecheng racked his brains but never once imagined that Fu Hui had previously picked Lan Xi up and taken him home too.
All Liang Yuecheng could do was offer another guess. “I should take him to the police station? Have the police help find his family?”
“Go ahead.”
Liang Yuecheng felt as though he had finally landed on the correct answer. He let out a huge sigh of relief and turned toward Lan Xi.
Lan Xi was extremely unhappy. This man could be swayed by just a few words.
The police station?
Absolutely not.
He still didn’t want to go back to the Wen family.
“I’ll leave myself.”
After Lan Xi said that, no one expected him to suddenly walk straight up to Fu Hui and kick him.
Fu Hui reflexively caught Lan Xi by the ankle.
Even the bodyguard hadn’t reacted in time.
Liang Yuecheng was even slower, shooting to his feet with his head on the verge of exploding, unable to produce a single word.
Lan Xi hadn’t expected Fu Hui to react so quickly either. He had planned to kick him once and run. He tried to pull his foot free but couldn’t.
He looked at Fu Hui. The usual expectation had vanished from his face, leaving him thoroughly unhappy as he said, “Let go.”
Fu Hui’s expression was covered in frost as their eyes met.
You’re blaming me for ruining your plans?
Fu Hui was just about to speak when Lan Xi spoke first.
“Fine! If you won’t take me, then don’t!”
Fu Hui narrowed his eyes slightly.
From the sound of that, Lan Xi seemed to be angry specifically because Fu Hui refused to take him away.
Fu Hui gradually loosened his grip.
His gaze dropped almost inadvertently and caught sight of the clear finger marks already appearing on Lan Xi’s smooth, pale ankle.
When Lan Xi said he was leaving, he left.
There were plenty of rich people around. It wasn’t as though he couldn’t find another one.
He successfully pulled his leg free and stomped rapidly toward the door. Only when he reached the entrance did he turn around and make a rude gesture at Liang Yuecheng that he had learned recently.
He raised his middle finger.
Liang Yuecheng stared at him, dumbfounded.
So this kid had never been some harmless little rabbit in the first place.
Lan Xi ran all the way out, and his figure quickly disappeared into the distance.
The bodyguard crouched beside Fu Hui to check him. “Sir, you’re not hurt, are you?”
Fu Hui merely said, “Follow him. Take him to the police station and have his family pick him up there.”
The bodyguard hadn’t expected him to be so persistent about the matter. He froze for a moment before nodding. “Yes.”
“What is a kid doing running around outside by himself?” Fu Hui added in an indifferent tone.
Only then did Liang Yuecheng find his voice again. “I’m sorry, Mr. Fu. I really didn’t expect him to suddenly…”
Fu Hui cut him off. “Let’s discuss why I actually came.”
There’s an actual reason? Liang Yuecheng couldn’t make heads or tails of it. That only made Fu Hui’s entire interrogation just now seem even more inexplicable.
“I came here to collect something from you.”
“Just tell me what it is.”
“Back then, you attended the same school as my mother…”
“Y-yes.”
“She left a few things with the art club. I heard they eventually ended up with you.”
“Yes, yes. I’ll find them for you.”
Liang Yuecheng breathed a sigh of relief.
So that was what this was about.
As long as he hadn’t somehow offended Fu Hui, everything was fine.
He didn’t dare entrust the task to anyone else, so he went to search the attic himself. After rummaging around for ages until he was covered in sweat and dust, he finally managed to gather most of the items.
“There are still two things missing. Once I find them, I’ll definitely send them over to you.”
After receiving the items, Fu Hui had no intention of staying any longer.
Liang Yuecheng escorted him to the door, where Fu Hui said, “Stop playing around with things you shouldn’t. One day, you’ll get yourself locked up.”
Liang Yuecheng immediately thought of Lan Xi. “Yes, yes, of course.”
After leaving the Liang residence, Lan Xi walked down the road.
He was furious and wanted to find a couple of pebbles to kick around and vent his anger. Unfortunately, the road had been swept so clean that he couldn’t find a single one even after searching for ages.
He had missed the villa so much before.
Now all of those feelings had been shattered.
Fu Hui had ruined his pleasant memories too!
Suddenly, Lan Xi didn’t think Fu Hui was good-looking anymore. He only thought the man was truly detestable.
Once I sleep with him, I’m definitely strangling him to death.
Lan Xi was very good at strangling angels.
But without Fu Hui, who was going to continue teaching him how to read?
There were still so many characters he didn’t recognize and so many books he couldn’t understand. That made Lan Xi faintly worried.
Know your enemy, and only then can you defeat your enemy. If I can’t even learn the angels’ language properly, how am I supposed to sleep my way through all the seraphs?
As Lan Xi continued walking, he spotted another villa.
His eyes brightened slightly. He knew anyone living in a place like this had money, so he began hovering outside the gate.
The bodyguard following at a distance received a call from Fu Hui.
Fu Hui asked, “Have you caught him?”
“He runs fast. I just caught up. He’s stopped outside another villa.”
“…”
He certainly changes targets quickly.
The bodyguard suddenly said, “Sir, I think someone has come looking for him.”
“Who?”
The bodyguard watched as a car approached and stopped in front of Lan Xi. The door opened, and someone inside reached out, grabbed Lan Xi, and hauled him straight into the vehicle.
The bodyguard jolted. “That almost looked like a kidnapping.”
“License plate?” Fu Hui asked calmly.
The bodyguard hurriedly read it out.
It took Fu Hui almost no effort to identify the family that owned the plate. “It belongs to the Cui family.”
The bodyguard hesitated. “Should I still take him to the police station?”
When all was said and done, this person had never had anything to do with Fu Hui in the first place. They had simply crossed paths by mistake and, just as mistakenly, become slightly entangled.
Fu Hui rubbed his thumb against his fingertips, bent down, and lifted his trouser leg slightly.
A clear bruise marked the bone of his leg.
He certainly put some strength into that kick…
His likes and dislikes really did follow nothing but his own whims. Nothing else mattered to him.
Why was someone like that short of money?
Why did he need to be kept by someone else?
“Ask the Cui family what’s going on.”
The moment Lan Xi was hauled into the car, he prepared to elbow the person holding him.
Fortunately, the man spoke in time. “Stop moving. I’m your brother.”
Hearing Wen Ming’s voice, Lan Xi thought about it and decided not to strike after all.
Suppressing the buzzing noise in his head that was disrupting his thoughts, Wen Ming held a slip of paper in front of Lan Xi and asked irritably, “What is this?”
Lan Xi stared at it for a moment before recognizing it. “Oh…”
“What is it?” Wen Ming pressed again.
“Someone gave it.”
“A middle-aged man gave it to you, right?”
“Mm.”
A servant had found the note when taking Lan Xi’s clothes to be washed. It had fallen out of his pocket, so the servant brought it to Wen Yue and Wen Ming. In addition to a phone number, the paper had one sentence written on it: You have to contact me.
Wen Yue thought it was strange, so he looked up the number.
After adding it on WeChat, they discovered that it belonged to an ordinary office worker in his forties. The moment they added him, the man eagerly began greeting and flirting with them.
The Wen brothers realized that he was after Lan Xi.
After sounding him out for a while, they finally learned that Lan Xi had once asked the man to help buy him a subway ticket, and the man had taken the opportunity to give Lan Xi his number.
“You were that desperate for money…” Wen Ming felt strangely uncomfortable.
And the covetousness plainly visible between the man’s words only made both brothers angrier.
So after the Cui family located Lan Xi, Wen Ming came over in the Cui family’s car.
Now that he had finally found Lan Xi, Wen Ming’s emotions were complicated. Holding them in, he asked, “Why do you stuff absolutely everything into your pockets?”
Lan Xi said, “In case… I need it.”
“What would you ever need him for?”
“If no money… use him.”
Wen Ming’s face turned green. “Then do you know why he gave you his number?”
“I’m pretty.” Lan Xi had always been perfectly aware of his own beauty.
Wen Ming nearly fainted from anger. Through clenched teeth, he said, “Yes, he was attracted to your looks and wanted to… wanted to…” Wen Ming couldn’t even bring himself to say the words.
Lan Xi calmly supplied them for him. “Sleep with me.”
Wen Ming: “…”
“You know that?!”
Lan Xi looked at him as though he were an idiot. “Of course.”
“Then why would you still give him a chance?”
“He’s ugly. He doesn’t get to sleep with me.”
“…What if he forces you?” Wen Ming couldn’t even describe how he had felt when a message saying, Are you free tonight? Let’s have dinner together, appeared on WeChat.
“Beat him up.”
“…” Wen Ming briefly recalled the experience.
Right.
Yes.
Lan Xi really did hit hard.
“But have you considered that he could drug you?”
Lan Xi froze for half a second.
Wow. Angels can be that underhanded too?
Usually, they were the ones feeding angels bewitching poisons.
But that wouldn’t really be a problem either. Aside from people like Fu Hui and Wen Ming, whose wills were exceptionally firm, everyone else was far too easily influenced by him.
Lan Xi thought without the slightest modesty, If I told him to jump off a building, he’d jump.
But saying that aloud would expose his true nature as a demon, and angels wouldn’t like that.
Lan Xi restrained himself from showing off.
Then he abruptly turned the tables and asked Wen Ming, “Why… do you care?”
The question stunned Wen Ming, and his anger gradually faded somewhat. “You think I want to bother with you?”
Lan Xi asked, “Am I pretty?”
Even the driver couldn’t help glancing back when he heard that.
Of course he was.
Ridiculously so.
How had no one ever noticed that the Wen family’s youngest young master was this beautiful before?
But Wen Ming didn’t answer.
Lan Xi pursed his lips. “But you said… he was attracted to my… looks.”
So Wen Ming obviously knew he was pretty too.
Wen Ming’s brows drew together so tightly they could have crushed a mosquito before he finally said, “Yes, yes. You’re pretty.”
Lan Xi smiled.
Just like that, the lingering irritation in his chest dispersed.
He reached out, hooked an arm around Wen Ming’s neck, and leaned closer. “You like me?”
Wen Ming went rigid.
His elder brother’s words from several days ago repeatedly flashed through his mind—
He was waiting for me in the hallway. The moment I walked over, he hugged me…
Lan Xi tilted his head. “Why… aren’t you honest?”
Even Wen Ming’s fingertips went numb. He forced out, “Do you… want to drink medicine again?”
Lan Xi became angry. “No! If you make me drink it again, I’ll leave again.”
“Leave and go where…?”
“Anywhere! Anywhere is fine.” Lan Xi said it without a care. “Just now… I went with Liang Yuecheng.”
He prettied up the story of what had happened and left out the part where Fu Hui had interfered.
He only said, “Liang Yuecheng’s house… food bad. So I didn’t stay.”
Wen Ming hadn’t expected to dig up yet another disaster. His voice trembled with anger. “You actually went home with Liang Yuecheng?”
Lan Xi: “Mm-hm.”
“Do you even know what kind of person Liang Yuecheng is?” The moment Wen Ming asked, he realized the question might be pointless. Lan Xi understood perfectly well what that middle-aged man had wanted from him, so how could he possibly not know what sort of person Liang Yuecheng was?
The buzzing in Wen Ming’s head became even louder.
This really was going to kill him.
They absolutely could not let Wen Lan wander around outside anymore.
The moment his temper flared, he would leave with whoever happened to come along.
Wen Ming slowly calmed the turmoil in his chest. “…No more medicine. When we get back, I’ll talk to Big Brother. You won’t have to drink it anymore.”
Lan Xi immediately pressed his advantage. “Want cards too.”
Wen Ming: “…”
Lan Xi said pointedly, “Liang Yuecheng… has money.”
“Stop fucking asking other people for money. The family will give you some.”
Seeing Wen Ming finally give in to what he wanted made him much more agreeable in Lan Xi’s eyes. Lan Xi decided that, for the moment, he could toss the difficult Fu Hui to the back of his mind.
Lan Xi pursed his lips into a soft smile, his features captivating as he practically draped himself over Wen Ming. Remembering that Wen Ming called himself his brother, after all this time, Lan Xi finally addressed him that way too.
“Brother, I’ll go back with you.”
His voice brushed across Wen Ming’s ears with a faintly coaxing, spoiled sweetness.
Wen Ming’s entire body went numb.
