The student council of Sheng Jie Academy existed with absolute authority, managing student activities, every club, and daily affairs. Not only did it have its own independent floor and tightly linked departments, but being a member of the student council also brought preferential treatment in all sorts of areas. Even though the threshold for entering was very high, applications to join still came in endlessly. First-year students had to wait until the second half of the semester before they were qualified to apply, so these days, the entire first year had set off a craze for joining the student council.
After more than half a semester of remodeling, the hideout had practically changed appearance, all thanks to Ying Xiu Jie, who seized and plundered things everywhere. Whenever he saw something good elsewhere, he moved it here, and the originally empty school building now looked like a luxurious suite. Zhi Li lay on the sofa in the hideout with his eyes closed, resting. His posture was relaxed, one hand hanging at his side and the back of the other hand resting over his eyes to block the light. Su You Yan was barefoot, legs bent as she curled up in the corner of the sofa reading. Zhou Xin He was muttering to herself as she looked at a recipe book, while Gong Zhu sat in the boss chair watching BL anime. Ying Xiu Jie had taken off his shirt and was hitting a sandbag. Chu Hao Yu held a newly released photobook of a certain actress and smiled foolishly. The whole school building had fallen into an outrageous laziness. A bunch of degenerates, Ke Bu inwardly spat with half-lidded eyes. And what was he, who was spitting on others, doing? Lying in a hammock beneath a fake tree, with cola and snacks beside him, holding a PSP and playing games, one leg even hanging down and swaying.
The door was pushed open, and an African native walked in, his long hair lying oily against him, a computer tucked under his arm. Thanks to that computer, they knew who had come. Gong Zhu pinched his nose. “Zhang Luo, how long has it been since you last took a bath?”
“Only a month or so.”
Ke Bu took a sip of cola. “What? Is this outfit because you’re planning to develop toward Africa?”
“Art requires sacrifice. That’s not what I came here to talk about. According to my reliable information, this month the student council is going to inspect all the clubs, and those that don’t meet the requirements will be replaced.” After Zhang Luo finished speaking, the group still kept doing their own things. Ke Bu frowned tightly at his PSP. “Why hasn’t any equipment dropped after so long?”
“Should I take a photo of what you all look like right now? The first one to be wiped out will be us. In other words, this school building won’t be safe either.”
Ying Xiu Jie stopped moving and said angrily, “On what grounds? We worked hard to steal this place. If the student council dares touch it, I’ll dig up their ancestral graves.”
“The student council isn’t like the taekwondo club. They have numbers and influence. If we go hard against them, we’re the ones who’ll suffer.” Zhang Luo’s analysis was very correct. No matter what, even if these eight people were excellent, they were still only first-year new students. In terms of people, authority, and power, wanting to challenge the enormous student council was like a moth flying into flame. Ke Bu continued playing with his game, without the slightest sense of tension. “Isn’t You Yan here? Even when beating a dog, one has to consider its owner. No matter what, even the student council won’t make things difficult for a club the principal’s daughter is in.”
“Ke Bu, can’t you come up with a nicer comparison?” Chu Hao Yu said unhappily, then continued, “That’s not certain either. The principal already hates that You Yan is together with delinquents like you, and on top of that, you made trouble for the principal last year. He must hate you all to the bone.” Chu Hao Yu’s words were not much nicer either, and he had yet to include himself among them.
“How about sending a spy into the student council?”
“That’s a little difficult. The conditions for entering the student council are that you have to be within the top fifteen in your class grades, and your overall qualities have to be good. Those are only the basic conditions. Go take a piss and look in the mirror. Which one of you qualifies?”
Everyone’s gazes unanimously shifted to the two on the sofa. After pausing for a few seconds, they all shook their heads one after another. Forcing those two to do something they disliked would have very serious consequences. Gong Zhu smiled with his usual healing smile. “Don’t think too much. When the boat reaches the bridge, it will straighten itself out. It’s time to eat.”
“That’s true.”
“I’m hungry too.”
“I’m going back to the dormitory to take a shower first. Order the dishes for me.”
This group of people had no sense of crisis at all. Su You Yan closed her book and looked toward Ke Bu behind them. “You. Wake Zhi Li up.”
“Why me?”
“Otherwise, what other value does your existence have?”
“Is my value of existence only because of Zhi Li?!!” Ke Bu jumped down from the hammock and retorted furiously.
“Isn’t that enough?”
Su You Yan’s one sentence left Ke Bu unable to answer. He could not say an answer that went against his heart, so he pursed his lips. Only after everyone had left did Ke Bu crouch in front of the sofa, propping his chin with his hand as he looked at Zhi Li’s childlike sleeping face. His body rose and fell slightly with his breathing. He was sleeping so deeply. Ke Bu slid his fingers across Zhi Li’s face and stopped at his lips. Ke Bu pressed his lips together. A strange impulse took control of his brain. He leaned closer and closer, his lips pressing near Zhi Li’s ear, his voice so light it was almost inaudible. “Hey~ Zhi Li?”
“Zhi Li? Are you really asleep?” Reassured, Ke Bu leaned close again, almost to the distance of kissing Zhi Li. He liked touching Zhi Li even more than he had imagined. Two kinds of heartbeats, two kinds of feelings. When Zhi Li touched him, his heart trembled uncontrollably, surging so strongly it felt as if he might suffocate at any moment. When he touched Zhi Li, it was quiet and peaceful, so attached that he was reluctant to let go. Ke Bu used to think the world was flawed, cruel, and on the verge of collapse, and even now, he still thought so. But, but, his hand pressed against Zhi Li’s chest. “You are the most beautiful part of the world in my eyes, but sometimes your temper is too bad, and you’re always teasing me. You clearly know things but pretend not to know, and you hide a lot of things from me. You still haven’t paid me back the one yuan fifty you owe me, your drawing hasn’t improved at all, and you always deal with me perfunctorily. Zhi Li, I have a lot of complaints about you. You’re simply hateful to the extreme.” Having said too much in one breath, Ke Bu paused for a moment. “Zhi Li, Zhi Li, Zhi Li, Zhi Li, Zhi Li, I love you.”
“I heard you.” Zhi Li removed the hand that had been covering his eyes. The sudden voice made Ke Bu want to bury himself in the ground. He lifted his head. “When did you wake up!!”
“When did I say I was asleep?”
“What I said just now doesn’t count. None of it counts.”
Zhi Li propped up his head and looked at Ke Bu. “Do you want to say it again?”
“That’s not what I meant!!”
Zhi Li lifted Ke Bu’s chin with his other hand. His bewitching lips pressed against Ke Bu’s, and his voice teased Ke Bu’s heart. “Then what do you mean, Ke Bu?”
Sure enough, you are the most cunning. You easily seize my weakness, and everything becomes biased.
The group in the cafeteria had already grown impatient from waiting, arms crossed. “You’re so slow. There are no seats on the first floor. Let’s eat in a private room on the second floor.”
“Yo, how generous.” Ke Bu shrugged indifferently. The group walked to the second floor. Ying Xiu Jie kicked open the sliding door outside the second floor while turning back to talk, completely unaware that a boy was standing behind the other side of the door. The door directly hit the boy’s face, while Ying Xiu Jie on this side said, “Why can this door only open this much?”
“Maybe it’s been broken for too long. Kick it harder.”
Ying Xiu Jie kicked it hard twice more. “It’s no use. Is something stuck behind it?”
“No way.” Chu Hao Yu joined in, and the two of them forcefully shoved the door inward. Zhou Xin He was somewhat flustered. “Did you hear some kind of strange scream?”
“S-Stop~~~” A loud roar came from inside. Ying Xiu Jie and Chu Hao Yu let go, and the door was opened. A person appeared, clutching his nose, his face flushed red from anger as he glared wide-eyed at Ke Bu and the others. “What are you doing!!”
“Sorry. We didn’t know you were behind the door.” Gong Zhu apologized sincerely.
“First-years?” The boy’s eyes and tone both revealed disdain. That attitude of looking down on people was very irritating, as if first-years were low-class people in his eyes.
“What’s wrong with us being first-years, senior~~~~” Chu Hao Yu dragged out the final syllable for a long time.
“Do you understand manners? All of you apologize.”
Zhi Li passed by the boy as if nothing had happened and prepared to enter the private room. The boy grabbed his arm. “No one is leaving without apologizing.” Zhi Li turned his head back coldly and stared at the hand grabbing his arm. “Let go.” The boy froze for a moment, and his body instinctively released Zhi Li’s hand. Very quickly, he grew even angrier at his own cowardly behavior. “First-year, open your eyes and look clearly. What is this?” The boy pointed at the badge hanging on the left side of his chest.
Ke Bu glanced at that shiny silver badge. “Dog tag?”
“You people!! This is the student council emblem, understand? I’m from the student council. You bunch of first-years, do you know what kind of person you’ve offended?”
Calling them first-years again and again, as if it were racial discrimination, made Ying Xiu Jie want to hit someone, but Zhang Luo dragged him back.
Zhi Li tore the badge off the boy’s chest and held it in his hand.
“What are you doing?!!”
“Didn’t you tell me to look?” Zhi Li threw the badge in his hand onto the ground. “Student council? What the hell is that?”
“I told you to listen properly when people talk!!” Ke Bu shouted from behind Zhi Li.
“You want to fight, is that it? Come on, let me show you my Dragon Fist, Mantis Fist, Goose Fist, Mouse Fist, and Cockroach Fist.” Ying Xiu Jie said, but somehow, the names of the fists seemed to get worse one after another. Seeing that there were so many people, the boy felt somewhat afraid.
“Alright, hurry up and go eat.” Zhou Xin He pushed Ying Xiu Jie from behind. The group walked toward the private room, while the boy continued roaring behind them. “Ignorant of what’s good for you. I’ve never seen you before. What are you people?”
“Us? We’re first-years.”
