JB – Extra Chapter 18: Gu Ziyu and Lei Yunze

After Mi Li’s words, Lei Yunze finally sorted out his feelings. At first, he had paid attention to Gu Ziyu because of his eldest cousin’s instructions. After graduation, he realized he was still doing the same thing, but by then he could no longer change the habit. So he blamed it all on his eldest cousin again and never truly examined his own feelings.

Lei Yunze was extremely picky when it came to relationships. Perhaps because of his eldest cousin’s influence—Wang Cheng was such an outstanding person—he had always wanted to find an equally outstanding girlfriend. As a result, he had never really been in a relationship and had become rather slow when it came to matters of the heart. It was only after Mi Li pointed it out that he realized his constant attention to Gu Ziyu’s life was abnormal. It was not a habit at all, as he had convinced himself. If he did not care about her, why would he do something so out of the ordinary?

The thing Mi Li could never understand was simply that Lei Yunze himself had never awakened to his feelings. His personality was indeed the decisive, straightforward type. If he had known he liked Gu Ziyu back then, he would have confessed long ago. If Mi Li ever learned that this was the real reason, she would probably be speechless.

After work, Lei Yunze accompanied Gu Ziyu back to her apartment.

Now that he understood his feelings, Lei Yunze did not immediately confess. Since it was his first time liking someone, he felt it should be done properly, something worthy of the occasion. Unfortunately, he never expected his plans would be derailed halfway through.

Gu Ziyu was still angry with him. Perhaps because Mi Li had spoken with her, she had unconsciously begun believing that Lei Yunze liked her. That was why seeing another woman so infatuated with him had made her so upset. The entire way home, she did not speak to him and even kept a deliberate distance, walking ahead of him.

When they were almost downstairs from the apartment building, they noticed a flashy sports car parked outside. A man holding a bouquet of roses stood beside it. The moment he saw Gu Ziyu, his eyes lit up. He quickly ran over, thrust the flowers toward her, and loudly declared, “Gu Ziyu, I really like you. Please go out with me!”

Gu Ziyu froze. She remembered him. He had once been one of her clients, but later she discovered he had fabricated a fake case just to get close to her. After that, she had blacklisted him as a client. Yet he had never given up, sending flowers to her law firm every day. The deliveries had stopped recently, and she had thought he had finally moved on.

Just as she was about to reject him, Lei Yunze beat her to it. He shoved the man aside, fury written all over his face. How dare someone confess to Gu Ziyu right in front of him!

“Are you crazy? Who are you? Why the hell did you push me?” The man nearly stumbled in front of the woman he liked and immediately flew into a rage.

Suddenly, Lei Yunze wrapped an arm around Gu Ziyu’s shoulders and loudly announced, “I’m Gu Ziyu’s boyfriend. You’re confessing to my girlfriend right in front of me. Why do you think I pushed you?”

The man was struck speechless. Gu Ziyu had a boyfriend? How was that possible? He had specifically asked around and confirmed she was single before pursuing her. But seeing the possessive way Lei Yunze held her and hearing the certainty in his tone, he began to doubt himself. Thinking back, Gu Ziyu had always rejected him. Once, she had even told him she already had a boyfriend. At the time, he had assumed it was just an excuse. Now it seemed it might actually be true.

Still unwilling to give up, the man sized Lei Yunze up, trying to find some aspect in which he surpassed him. Unfortunately, the more he looked, the more discouraged he became. Whether it was appearance or clothing, Lei Yunze was no worse than he was.

After the man finally left, Gu Ziyu immediately shoved Lei Yunze away, shot him a glare, and stormed upstairs.

Lei Yunze hurried after her. When they reached her floor, Gu Ziyu tried to shut him out. This time, however, Lei Yunze was prepared. He wedged one foot into the doorway.

“Move your foot!”

“Not unless you let me in,” Lei Yunze said shamelessly.

Gu Ziyu gritted her teeth in frustration. She could not keep standing there forever, so in the end she let him inside. However, she made it abundantly clear she had no intention of playing hostess. “What was that supposed to mean? Since when am I your girlfriend? You can joke around about food, but you can’t joke around about things like that.”

“I wasn’t joking. You are my girlfriend.” Lei Yunze casually looked around the apartment and noted how tidy it was. As expected, the woman he liked was truly capable and domestic.

“When exactly did I become your girlfriend?” Gu Ziyu demanded angrily. This self-appointed boyfriend was unbelievable.

Looking at her pretty face flushed with color, Lei Yunze smiled. “You’ve been my girlfriend since your junior year.”

The rumors that they were dating had started when Gu Ziyu was a junior. Since Lei Yunze had never once denied them, many people continued believing they were a couple right up until her graduation.

Gu Ziyu was stunned. She had never met anyone so shameless. What kind of boyfriend and girlfriend only saw each other a handful of times in an entire year? Not to mention that after graduation everyone had gone their separate ways. They had not seen each other for over a year, yet she, the person involved, had somehow never known she already had a boyfriend.

“You’re twisting logic. You knew perfectly well those were just rumors. How can you take them seriously?”

Seeing the annoyance on her face, Lei Yunze suddenly lost all desire to joke around. The teasing smile vanished from his face as he walked over and stopped directly in front of her.

Gu Ziyu looked up and found him wearing a serious expression. They were standing so close that she could feel the warmth of his breath. Only now did she notice how long his eyelashes were and how dark and deep his eyes looked, like a whirlpool threatening to pull her in. Her heart trembled.

“Gu Ziyu, since you want to know, then I’ll tell you.” Lei Yunze spoke each word carefully and sincerely, voicing the thought he had longed to express for years. “I like you. I’ve liked you for many years.”

Although he had originally wanted to find a better opportunity to confess, if these words could put Gu Ziyu at ease, he was willing to say them right now.

Gu Ziyu’s eyelashes fluttered. The affection in his eyes made her unable to meet his gaze any longer, and she lowered her head. “If you’ve liked me for so many years, then why didn’t you say so sooner?”

“Because I’m an idiot.” If he weren’t, he would not have needed other people to point it out before he understood his own feelings.

Gu Ziyu burst out laughing. “You really are quite an idiot.”

The moment he saw her smile, Lei Yunze’s mood instantly brightened. “So, does that mean you’ve agreed?”

“What if I haven’t?” Gu Ziyu lightly wiped the moisture from the corner of her eye, lifted her head, and raised an eyebrow at him.

“If you don’t agree…” Lei Yunze lowered his head and captured her lips in a kiss. “Then I’ll keep kissing you until you do.”

This was their first kiss. However, Lei Yunze was no innocent novice. Surrounded by a group of rowdy friends and having seen all kinds of things, kissing was hardly a challenge. Even without practice, he was naturally skilled at it. Gu Ziyu, on the other hand, was a complete beginner. Before long, she was dizzy from his kisses, and Lei Yunze smoothly coaxed her into agreeing to date him.

After years of twists and turns, the two of them had finally ended up together.

The first person to learn the good news was Mi Li. She was not surprised in the slightest. Of everyone around them, she had always seen their relationship most clearly. Once Lei Yunze understood his feelings because of her prompting, there was no way he would sit still. She had practically prepared a red envelope in advance, waiting for the day they got together.

The second and third people to find out were Pang Chunjuan and Qian Baobao. Even after graduation, the four women had remained close friends and still met up two or three times every month. Upon learning that Gu Ziyu and Lei Yunze were together, Qian Baobao was the happiest of all. Back then, she had been the one who most wanted them to become a couple. Fate, after all, had not played tricks on them.

Gu Ziyu’s family only learned about the relationship two or three months after they started dating. Once they officially became a couple, Lei Yunze moved into the apartment next door to hers. Although he technically lived next door, he frequently found excuses to stay at Gu Ziyu’s place instead.

After a while, the family began noticing that Lei Yunze seemed to have vanished. No one knew what he was doing every month, and he was rarely seen. Eventually, they discovered he was practically living with Gu Ziyu. Naturally, this caused an uproar. How had these two younger members of the family suddenly gotten together? Wang Cheng was chosen as the representative to investigate, and after questioning them, he learned that they had been dating all along. They had certainly kept it well hidden.

Once everyone found out that the two genuinely loved each other, their worries disappeared. Only Grandpa Gu was unhappy that his precious granddaughter had been whisked away by Lei Yunze. Unfortunately for him, the situation was already settled. Even if he objected, no one was going to listen.

A year later, Lei Yunze gave Gu Ziyu a wedding grand enough to be remembered for a lifetime. Like Chu Yifeng before him, he had not followed in his father’s footsteps. Instead, he established an investment company in the United States. The business grew larger and larger, and he gradually developed the same impressive presence that Chu Yifeng once had.

At the same time, Gu Ziyu made a name for herself in the legal world. Together with Mi Li, she became one of the capital’s most renowned lawyers, and Chaoyang Law Firm expanded several times over from its original staff of eight.

One year after their marriage, Gu Ziyu handed the law firm over to Mi Li to manage while she stayed home to focus on her pregnancy. Soon she would become a mother. The following year, she gave birth to a pair of twins, and the entire family lived happily ever after.
