JB – Extra Chapter 6: Wang Ning’an

The bodyguard, following Gu Shouzhuo’s instructions, threw a stack of documents at Gu Jiaqing’s feet. Gu Jiaqing bent down to pick them up, and his face immediately changed drastically after reading them.

The documents were records of his son’s bank transactions. They showed that three days earlier, Gu Ping’s bank account had transferred money twice to an unfamiliar account, each transaction amounting to one hundred thousand yuan. The timing of the two transfers coincided exactly with the period when Wang Ning’an’s car accident occurred.

It was obvious they already possessed solid evidence.

Su Dan snatched the documents away and, after reading them, immediately started shouting that the records were fake, insisting someone had deliberately framed Gu Ping in his name. She had no idea that everyone looking at her now regarded her like a ridiculous clown. With both physical evidence and testimony already in place, Gu Ping’s crime of harming others had been completely exposed.

“Ning’an, what do you want to do?” Gu Shouzhuo handed the decision over to Wang Ning’an.

Wang Ning’an glanced at them indifferently and said, “Proceed according to the normal process.”

“Then send Gu Ping to the police station.”

The color instantly drained from Gu Ping’s face.

Su Dan screamed and rushed forward, trying to stop the bodyguards from taking Gu Ping to the police station. If the police took over the case, Gu Ping would definitely go to prison, and his entire life would be ruined. But how could a woman like her possibly contend with the tall, muscular bodyguards? She was pushed aside within moments and could only watch helplessly as Gu Ping was taken away.

Gu Jiaqing and Su Dan had only this one son. For years, they had placed all the hopes of their family upon him. Now that he was gone, the couple felt as though life itself had lost all meaning.

Su Dan had always doted on her son excessively. Now that he was about to go to prison, all her hatred immediately shifted onto Wang Ning’an. Screaming hysterically, she lunged at him, only to be blocked by the bodyguards. Her almost deranged state fell fully into everyone’s eyes.

The truth was that Gu Ping ending up like this could largely be blamed on Gu Jiaqing and Su Dan. If they had not constantly filled his head with twisted ideas from a young age, Gu Ping would never have strayed onto the wrong path.

With Gu Shouzhuo backing him, Gu Ping’s future path could have been far smoother and more promising than that of countless others. In the end, it was the couple’s greed that destroyed him.

The incident involving Gu Ping served as a warning bell for the rest of the Gu family. For the first time, Gu Shouzhuo’s stance was made unmistakably clear to everyone: Wang Ning’an was his grandson, and anyone who dared harm him would face merciless consequences.

After this incident, the Gu family members who still harbored ambitions toward the Gu Corporation had no choice but to think far more carefully before making any moves.

The first person to learn about the matter was not Wang Cheng, but Zheng Jingen.

Gu Ping’s sentence had not yet been finalized, and he was still being held in detention. When Wang Ning’an went to see him again, he unexpectedly encountered Zheng Jingen standing outside the detention center. The moment he saw him there, a trace of surprise quickly flashed through his eyes.

“How did you know I’d come?” Wang Ning’an walked over to him and asked.

Zheng Jingen shrugged and smiled. “Maybe we’re just connected by telepathy?”

Wang Ning’an raised an eyebrow slightly. It seemed Zheng Jingen knew more things than he had initially expected.

Still, he did not mind. He knew very well that Zheng Jingen had appeared here mostly because of the younger brother they shared in common.

Inside the detention center, Gu Ping originally thought his parents had come to see him. At this point, all his hopes rested entirely on them. But the moment he saw Wang Ning’an’s face, the anxiety on his expression instantly transformed into fury.

“What are you here for? To laugh at me?”

Wang Ning’an calmly replied, “At least you still possess a little self-awareness.”

Gu Ping shot to his feet angrily, but a pane of glass separated them. No matter how much he hated Wang Ning’an, he could not touch him. If looks could kill, Wang Ning’an would already have died countless times over.

“Wang Ning’an, don’t get cocky. Even if you defeated me, the Gu Corporation may not necessarily become yours. Do you really think the Gu Corporation is still completely under Third Grandpa’s control? Let me tell you, getting the Gu Corporation won’t be that simple. Even if I end up in prison, I’ll still wait to hear the news of your failure.”

“You’re truly stupid beyond saving. You got sold out and still helped count the money afterward. Right now, aren’t you just a joke yourself?”

Wang Ning’an looked at him almost sympathetically.

Gu Ping widened his eyes furiously. “What did you say?”

“You still don’t understand?” Wang Ning’an said calmly. “Someone used you to oppose me. If you managed to get rid of me, then they wouldn’t have needed to dirty their own hands. And even if you failed, they could still use the opportunity to determine my grandfather’s attitude. Simply put, you were nothing more than a disposable chess piece to them.”

“You’re lying!” Gu Ping stubbornly believed this had to be another one of Wang Ning’an’s schemes.

“Whether I’m lying or not, think about it carefully yourself. As for you being fired from the company, I truly had nothing to do with it. I investigated afterward. The entire incident was clearly a trap deliberately set for you. The purpose was to make you believe I was responsible, so that you’d completely direct your hatred toward me.”

“That’s impossible. Impossible. You must be trying to trick me.”

Gu Ping refused to believe he had merely been someone else’s pawn.

Seeing that Gu Ping’s emotions were already on the verge of collapse, Wang Ning’an pressed further.

“I’ll tell you the truth. To me, your existence was never a threat. The Gu Corporation belongs to my grandfather. From the very beginning, I was already the winner, so there was no need for me to eliminate you.”

“But for others, it’s different. Even you yourself admitted the internal situation within the Gu Corporation is complicated. My appearance inevitably threatened certain people’s interests. Yet they couldn’t act against me openly, so they used you as their weapon instead.”

“If you don’t want to go to prison without even understanding why you were used, then think carefully. After you were fired from the company, did someone intentionally provoke your hatred toward me and slowly push you toward murderous thoughts?”

After hearing those words, Gu Ping gradually calmed down, and his thoughts became clearer.

His mind immediately replayed everything that had happened afterward.

Back then, after the incident occurred, he and his father’s first reaction had been to seek help from Old Madam Gu. But she had refused them and said, “This is a grudge between you and Wang Ning’an. Even if you expose my secrets, I will no longer interfere in matters between the two of you.”

It was precisely because of that sentence — “a grudge between you and Wang Ning’an” — that they became convinced Wang Ning’an had orchestrated everything.

Before that, he had also gone to investigate the mistake that led to his dismissal, only for his superior to tell him that without the Executive President’s authorization, nobody was permitted to examine those files.

The moment Wang Ning’an saw Gu Ping’s expression, he knew he had already figured it out.

Gu Ping was not truly stupid. Compared to the people behind the scenes, however, he was little more than a monkey in the Buddha’s palm. Once they decided to manipulate him, there was no possible way for him to escape.

After understanding the connections behind everything, Gu Ping finally realized Wang Ning’an’s purpose for visiting him. He wanted to learn who exactly had been opposing him from behind the scenes and who had manipulated Gu Ping into acting against him.

At that realization, Gu Ping suddenly understood he now possessed a bargaining chip advantageous to himself. Perhaps he could avoid going to prison after all.

The change in Gu Ping’s expression did not escape Wang Ning’an or Zheng Jingen’s notice. Neither found it surprising. They had already anticipated this before coming.

In truth, Wang Ning’an and the others had never intended to fight the Gu family to the death. If the Gu family members had simply behaved themselves and stopped scheming constantly, it would not have been impossible for the company to continue reusing them.

Moreover, in this matter, Gu Ping himself had merely been used.

“If you want me to tell you, fine,” Gu Ping said while staring at him. “But you have to get me out of this detention center first and guarantee I won’t go to prison. If you do that, I’ll tell you everything you want to know.”

Wang Ning’an turned to look at Zheng Jingen.

Zheng Jingen smiled slightly. “I can guarantee you won’t go to prison. But first, you’ll need to give us some useful information.”

As the eldest grandson of the Zheng family, Gu Ping had heard of Zheng Jingen before. The moment he heard those words, he immediately understood Zheng Jingen probably had a way to erase his criminal record.

When he made that demand earlier, he had actually been quite nervous. After all, the evidence had already been submitted. Even if the victim chose not to pursue the matter, he would still bear criminal responsibility.

“You mean it? As long as I tell you who those people are, you’ll get me out?” Gu Ping stared fixedly at Wang Ning’an.

“I always keep my promises,” Wang Ning’an replied.

Gu Ping clenched his teeth. He no longer had any other path left to take.

“Fine. I’ll tell you everything.”

After leaving the detention center, Zheng Jingen said to Wang Ning’an, “You actually already suspected this had something to do with that Old Madam Gu, didn’t you? You only came here to confirm it through Gu Ping.”

“That’s right. I should thank you for today,” Wang Ning’an said, turning to look at him. Without the promise Zheng Jingen made, Gu Ping probably would not have agreed so readily.

“It was only a small favor. There’s no need to thank me.” Zheng Jingen smiled warmly. “Besides, we’re friends, aren’t we? If you ever need my help in the future, you can call me directly.”

“I’ll remember this favor,” Wang Ning’an said.

In the past, Wang Ning’an had believed Zheng Jingen only associated with him because of his younger brother. But after so much time had passed, he no longer thought that way.

The more he interacted with Zheng Jingen, the more he realized how similar their personalities actually were. Sometimes Zheng Jingen could guess what he was thinking, and sometimes he could also guess Zheng Jingen’s thoughts.

It was a rather strange feeling.
